Bear Brook loop, S/F @ Hayes Field. Hadn't done this in years. Used a 1977 BB map. Newer maps don't cover the far side. As years pass I seem to wander less & less far so this was a good exercise. Most of the back side is fittingly named Lost Tr. and it wanders rather non-specifically except for the small, attractive reservoir. There are more trails, of course, than mapped but Lost Tr. looks the oldest and was familiar. Ratty most everywhere there had been logging. I paid pretty close attention to the map old as it was. Thunder and wind passed about halfway through but no rain until the last 20' when it began raining hard.
Never saw a person until a car passed both ways 5' from Hayes & leaving Hayes, I saw a biker. Encountered two porcupines in Hayes Field in the first 150m. Stopped at Bear Hill Pond considering a dip but it was too shallow & grassy. Bugs were minimal & singlet & shorts were fine. T was about 85F at start. Rt. MTP sore/still. Ice pack & 800mg motrin should help. Period of learning what I can do.
Last visit was 2012 cutting back to Hayes thru woods.
