Note

Turned out to be about as cold as it gets: saw 7F on the way to Concord this morning. Too cold to entertain the skate trial or do much outside. Took an afternoon ride and found Stark Cemetery in Dunbarton. I'd heard a news story about Robert Lowell, a famous American poet, and learned he was buried in Dunbarton, a surprise of a location it seemed to me. The small Stark cemetery is populated by quite a few Starks of all stripes and manner of fame. Probably was the only visitor to this hidden plot on such a bitterly cold day.

Had the Y in mind for 5pm but needed a nap instead.

Walking 35:00 [1] 0.75 mi (46:40 / mi)

With Mocha on the powerline. Entrance road is rutted ice but ruts aren't deep.
No snow in the open. Still a breeze in the open. Had not been to the PL in a couple of weeks.

It was a chilly day. Drove to CHS parking by Memorial field at lunch. The photo I didn't get was one of a fellow who ran about 6 laps around the track w/o a shirt on. Don't think it was 35F.

Stopped at BHS on the way home to see what was available for a trophic skate ski and discovered about 200m by the track in the shade, with only minor wind scalloping, no prints. Something for morning sampling.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

Stoneybrook slough for DP. March winds roaring in the tree tops. Not much snow at all. Quintessential March.

Weightexercise workout 35:00 [1]

Thought I'd do some cardio in addition but recalled that right 1st MTP was very sore last night after yesterday & then stopped being sore as day went along - but not prepared to abuse again tho I don't know what about yesterday might have set if off as the cardio at rehab was not at all pounding or full of repetitive bending.

Cardio Rehab 50:00 [2]

Overcast, first March day and looked/felt like spring, the previous warmer ones being more like imposters.

Walking 50:00 [3] 1.5 mi (33:20 / mi)

Birthday day with no plan and yesterday decided it should have one so we went to Boston, mostly the Aquarium, full of kids in the morning, quieter in the afternoon. Liked the seahorses and the octopus, mostly for their bizarre qualities viewed up close. Went to Quincy Mkt and Fanueil Hall after, seeing the Great Hall, site of many a famous oration, for the first time (after 35 plus years of downtown Boston). So mild, spring for sure, down there anyway.

I see this was the Snowgaine weekend. I recall doing three: one with virtually no snow & not using skis (w/ David Levine), one in a blizzard with a novice AR "youngster" and one with decent snow, and a good challenge (w/ Charlie Leonard). Always fun and a bear of a drive. Forgot ski boots once. The last one, north of Syracuse, was 400+ miles back to NH. One stop at a gas station maybe 30 miles along the way and then nonstop home. No appeal re driving such distance these days, at least in winter conditions/months which often are a game of roulette. But thanks to Eric Smith for those events - fun memories.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.5 mi (39:59 / mi)

Stoneybrook bog with Mocha, path and woods mostly free of snow. We were able to get to the shoreline & enjoy the warm morning sun.

Walking 30:00 [2] 0.75 mi (40:00 / mi)

Went looking for Bow's largest boulder with Beth and M but from the end of a
dead-end lane and not the way I was familiar with - which involved too much path distance. The woods were mostly free from snow, just some on the small power line. We crossed a few streams and some small marshes but never did find the trail leading to the boulder or the boulder itself. But it was fun to wander in somewhat unfamiliar woods and return a different way to just the right spot.

Weightexercise workout 35:00 [1]

Needed exercise beyond walking - Beth dropped me off at the Y around 4pm.
Stopped at Turee on the way back. The sunset beckoned.
