Orienteering 1:00:15 [2] 2.71 mi (22:14 / mi) +53m 20:58 / mi

Visit to Pawtuckaway to look at latter half of last Saturday's course. Cool, pleasant enough except for mosquitoes at one or two places in spite of liberal repellent. Went over 6 & 8, seeing my "stupid" ways. Nice time in the woods.
Lots of fresh goslings in the parking area.

Jerry Hill from Swope parking off Long Pond Rd. Ran the circle trail of the hill and up to the old fire tower site twice. Stunning open hardwoods in places as well as a great view of Penacook Lake. Paused to read about Gilfillian Rock, named after a SPS grad who died at the tender age of 15, July 2, 1893.
School mates carved his name in the rock more than 115 years ago. It will be there hundreds more judging by the size and depth of the inscription.

KRTF on way home from work. Sunny, cool, nice after 3 days gloom & rain. Would have benefitted from a map. Distracted days with boat launch Tu and offshore expected by end of week.

Beth spotted a bear on the way home from the BOS meeting last night. At first, a rural yard puzzle..."is that for real?"...then the real thing in the rear view. Always fun to see.

Note

Boat daze with little time for training. Took a trophic walk on Castle Island in Portsmouth today for some equilibration. Castle Island has to be one of New England's prime square miles from point of view of old, interesting architecture, landscaping, local color and history. Even pink flamingos are deployed artistically.

Another walk with Beth at the end of the day in Bow, catching sunset at Turee.

A planned departure for Saturday means more water, less training. Two roads....

Home from NHH, been nearly 2 years. Slow slog, walked some on hills. Cool,
light rain. Past two days have been very rainy & chilly. Wood stove going in house. Hit start/stop when I wanted lap: added 0.4 mi, 4'.
