AM wander - went to walking trail direct, followed yesterday’s route til I came to Rte 2 & saw that the path beckoned onward. To the left were fields that also invited, so a plan was hatched. Turns out the path is a segment of the Confederation Trail that crosses PEI and the sign noted 8k to Hampton Crossing and 107k to Charlottestown. Not having my water bottle, I opted for something well short of the latter, even short of the former. At first, it was easy to get a view of the fields but then more forest intervened. Finally I came to a dirt road crossing as well as field junction. From there, I was able to find a perimeter dirt road & have some adventure as it were. As an old(er), mature man (as, say, noted by a stranger), I often wonder if I might be perceived as being a bit nutty, being found along field perimeters (say by the farmer) or making my way along some PEI resident’s lawn perimeter - as I did today. But those who orienteer do this kind of thing that those with likely lesser imagination might consider “wacky” or at least peculiar. Long live imagination.

A painting I'd have liked to run through.

Red earth, sea and sky

Souris shuffle on a sleepy Sunday am. THorton's still closed. Waterfront trees’ leaves are mostly dead, guessing due to Arthur’s winds. Found a walking path eventually, and headed my way. Followed it to very end and lo & behold, I was back at the marina parking area.

Hot here yesterday with evening flies & mosquitoes. None of that in the Madeleines as it was too windy. We took a pm drive and the impression is patterns of green and brown rolling hills & fields (with red earth) with the sea providing the backdrop much of the time. All very attractive, natural beauty being the calling card of PEI.

We asked the marina manager about a car rental. He replied that there was a car owned by a cruising sailor who’d gone away for the summer. The cruiser had asked him to use it for mechanical reasons. Next thing we knew we had our own personal transport. Indeed generous & a nice stroke of luck!
