Road/trail 54:09 intensity: (44:09 @1) + (10:00 @2) 2.73 mi (19:51 / mi) +52m 18:44 / mi

Ashore Owl's Head, first time ashore tho one can drive there easily enough which is quite different. Hard rain/front last night, blue am, now mostly gray again. Roadside rills were gurgling. Not in mood for running & old NB 993s weren't either. Look-see walk - encountered general store at 0.33 mi & no $ for coffee!

pm - ashore at High Island. Huge cut granite stones, monoliths. Found the main quarry a short way back in thick woods - yet passable in many places & occ carpeted with soft green grass. Spooky place, granite ghosts & cellar holes of long-ago laborers.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

Trophic entry. DP in AM, went out again around 5:30, very dark & the heavens opened. The dogs grimaced as the hit the ground & wanted back in the car. That is showing age. Was a Y day that didn't happen.

Road/trail 30:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (15:00 @2) 2.0 mi (15:00 / mi)

BHS around 4:30p, a dumb time considering it was c. 90F here today but at least I stayed to the shade. Had dogs along for the walk part. Beth is in CA (said it was 98F in Cleveland yesterday at the airport) and Z&M waited all day long in the drive for their PM entitlement. What I really wanted to do was launch a canoe or kayak & paddle on Turee Pond.

Note

Quoted $879 to fix the MacBookPro - not worth that considering its 3 yrs age & fact that it already has hx on record - previous logic board failure. Think I'll put some good $ after bad (<$300), get it repaired in NYC as before & have insurance pay for a new one. This way I get another not-too-expensive shot at what's on it.

Computers, computers - a sat view of a military installation could look something like this

Yesterday: the small sign says Monadnock-Sunapee Greenway (view looking N). Beth & I were "determined" to do this, first in May when energy was afresh, then in August when it was warm, black flies were gone & we had time. Now it's September and I can only point out what we failed to do. Views to east and south were largely flat, what one expects from a monadnock. To the east, the far horizon was nearly level and gray enough to be mistaken for the sea.

Walked to the slough this eve & spotted this guy returning. Haven't seen much of interest this summer: the large snapper much earlier & the one-time "Breakfast at Tiffany's" display on the exact right dewey morning. Wonder what the spiders do with the rest of their time.

Hiking 3:16:42 [1] 3.85 mi (51:05 / mi) +553m 35:20 / mi

Monadnock hike with Peter, using Marlboro Trail from the end of Shaker Farm Rd. A little used trail, we saw no one until near the summit. By the time we left, there must have been 50 hikers at the top. There was a large group from Kimball-Union. Could see Boston and Mt. Washington. Peter figured he'd hiked this mountain 50 times in the past three years. It was sunny with a westerly breeze.

For posterity

Orienteering race 51:45 [3] 4.52 km (11:27 / km) +83m 10:29 / km

Pawtuckaway Camping Weekend, brown. Nice day, NW breezy, dry. Opted for brown - glad I did. Legs were dead much of the time. B+ run, one c. 3' error, rest was clean enough. Maybe best for me would have been 47'. Forgot a clue sheet which was a bit distracting.

Very nice weekend. Usually make only part of these or not at all, boat stuff competing. Lots of time to visit with friends. Nice Saturday dinner. Steve Tarry came today & it was nice to catchup with him & his SO Betsy. Helped with the cleaning up after, thinking how long I've known these club mates!
