Track 40:00 intensity: (10:00 @1) + (10:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) 3.0 mi (13:20 / mi)

BHS track around 6p - good time of day, cool, light breeze. Had no watch of any kind. Forgot gps & had removed basic watch to wear gps yesterday. Became an exercise in "applied lassitude". More energy predicted tomorrow for UNO meet at College Woods.

Road/trail 48:24 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (33:24 @2) 3.36 mi (14:24 / mi) +68m 13:33 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Bog Jog with Z&M. Perfect day, cool, mostly in shade. Bog Meadow is completely drained after tree damaged the dam & it was not repaired. What happened to the beavers? Two lodges, no activity. Surprised to see how shallow it was - had been concerned in past re falling thru ice. Looked over eastern portion of adopted trail, starting at small pond with 2 islets. Nothing amiss but leaves need 'sweeping'.

5 PM

Road running 29:25 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (19:25 @3) 3.05 mi (9:39 / mi) +68m 9:01 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Drove to Sandwich Center with Beth so she could deliver several dresses to the League shop there. Took the road from Ashland (Rt 103) which was as good as NH gets. Center Sandwich is very lovely - was there two winters ago for a SS race. Ran 3 mi on Squam Lake Rd., Carns to Cotton Cove - Beth passed me around 2.5 mi & appeared when gps said she would.

Track 35:00 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) 3.0 mi (11:40 / mi)
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Noon at CHS track - a hot, black track under strong sun but a good split of working day. Have missed going out at noon due to job change. Ran a mile in relative heat & retreated to grass & shade. No watch of any kind all day - disorienting.

Walker TF perusal, in part looking for Hilary's trail which I stumbled upon, took to Van Geer & may have hit it just before returning to the thru road. Generally nice woods, complex terrain, no paths to speak of. Tired & chronically sore rt first MT at work. Great day-way to begin May. Took a few photos for BOS archives.

Note

Sunday, middle, #5. Done mostly for the fun of it & to see how to get track in small section of map. Learned more than I thought I would, ie, did not descend & climb back up thru CP cliff but around to S of it, between cliffs as mapped. And, twice, was looking at area between cliff to L & one just to L & above that one (second time as in looking for extremely tucked away flag - thinking Anna Shafer-Skelton might know something I didn't). GPS track seems pretty accurate.

Note

Last of April!

where did it go? Ides of March, Easter Sunday, Boston marathon, BG, WP past, even a full moon past! May has always been the favorite month so 31 days to look forward to.

Saturday middle, saw #7 as a rock face between two spurs (missing the bigger picture) until that failed to produce results.

Mysteriously acquired chest wall pain (pectoral) from weekend: no falls, nothing I can recall - hurts to cough or laugh.
5 PM

Road/trail 21:12 [2] 2.21 mi (9:36 / mi) +23m 9:17 / mi

2 loops around 5:15p - tired legs revealed. Dogs on first loop, then contentedly tied to car while I did second. Balmy eve.

Orienteering race 52:38 [3] 2.7 mi (19:28 / mi) +227m 15:26 / mi

Sunday middle, ok except for #5 - misread the control description, ie, the "L" as in foot of cliff outside a circle in clue description was as small as can be. I read it as a dot as in "side of" which, of course, was most confusing as it does not apply to cliffs. Muttering """at least use "foot" symbol!""" while running round & up & down & to NW foot twice. CP was in a jumble of rocks, thru some green at base of perhaps 30' cliff. It was in the center of the circle. Lost some 6' compared to Dave Cady. Rest ok tho I was in a state of disequilibrium for a bit after. Departing #5 had quite a cliff to negotiate - needed to be more one side or the other. No falls on the course, however...falls not affordable for the most part on such terrain.

Orienteering race 21:49 [4] 1.53 mi (14:14 / mi) +117m 11:30 / mi

Sunday sprint, no misses but RC to 5 was likely not the best - did not see the path route as I did not spend enough time looking. Was lucky to stumble upon a small stairway thru the high retaining wall (a small, old path with recent use led there).
7 PM

Note

Camping at Round Pond thanks to Jim Arsenault - two calm and cloudless lovely days & nights, sleeping with peepers & geese (plus Beth & dogs). Dinner with Dave Cady Fri & Sat, Jim Saturday. Compared Schades with Park Restaurant right next door, Park getting the nod. West Point campus was alive with rites of spring activity on a Sunday afternoon. Left right after finishing (almost forgot to download) to drive to Holbrook. Manhattan, Cross Bronx, LIE provided a lively comparison.

An excellent WP weekend by Cadets & weather powers-that-be.
