Classic skiing 51:31 [2] 3.19 mi (16:09 / mi) +81m 14:58 / mi

From JBC, Second Grant - along 4 Mile Brook Tr road with idea of turing around at 1.6, plowed with some fresh powder available on the sides - no sand or dirt but crusty under the powder. Best part was a small field at the turn. Last of the out-of-doors for the day after driving 165 mi in arriving. Had Z&M along.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.7 mi (21:25 / mi)

Slough walk & repeats of the hill under the PL about 4:30p - almost made it light til 5p today, blue dome, bitter cold. Seems strange to see the untracked snow - no SMs - not enough of it yet at first glance it appears sufficient. Not much of an exercise day.

Car wouldn't start at Hannaford's; certainly a helpless feeling - got a jump on my second query. First was a cheery, middle-age obese lady who was driving her husband's car. He had a lot of organized tool stuff in back but we did not spot cables. Drove the car home, stopping 2x w/o turning engine off. Now it starts ok. Put jumper cables in the car.

Road/trail 14:00 [3]

Cheap but honest - hill x 6 in snow. Dogs never know how to deal w/ repeats.

Skate skiing 30:00 [2] 1.75 mi (17:09 / mi)

Just before dark with M on 2-3" of settling day-old snow for the most part. A few places where it was more packed by the wind and others where snow blobs had fallen from tree tops making it crusty - interesting to experience the different surfaces. Heard M barking & a voice - later found fresh tracks - often a surprise when you think you have a little corner of the world to yourself to find out it's not so.

Noted Z had a big swelling on under side of neck this am - turned out to be an abscess thanks to Mocha's play habit of biting her in the neck when they first get out of the car mornings (surmise making up for Z's abuse years ago). Anyway, cost about $50 more than the skate skis I have been coveting. Poof!

Classic skiing 33:54 [2] 2.5 mi (13:34 / mi)

Classic after work, 3" new snow, still it was rough in a few hidden places or just plain thin under hemlock.

Finally registered for JST 30k - first pass said too late, next visit (as in "this can't be"), said ok - more technofusion but, in the end, I have the opportunity to beat myself up:).

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.7 mi (28:34 / mi)

Slough, mild but ground is frozen again. Ice is milky white and rough in places but still an easy fall w/o due care. Several men were cutting back the tree line by the Sandbox to make for more excavation for the insatiable appetite for sand.

Weightexercise workout 35:00 [1]

Weights and cardio at Y, first visit.

Tired day, took Beth to airport at 0430, mediocre sleep due to alarm distrust.

shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Run that started at Ralph Pill bldg parking lot. Needed something refreshing in terms of locale with 10 miles in mind and Concord center as starting point came to mind yesterday. Had planned on doing this around 3p & then going straight to dinner with Diane & Liz but it was such a lovely day that noon hour called. Car temp said 57F, frightfully - saw a showoff w/o a shirt. Went north on N State and then to RR tracks and a road alongside. Tracks seemed unused for quite sometime. Somehow got beyond Sylvester. Crossed Beaver Meadow GC & onto Sewards Falls Rd. Was ready for good footing & drier ground by then. Face plant on a small stub of stump around 43' that took 10' at least to recover from. Very nice along the Merrimack and no one around tho there were prints.

welcomes you!

Classic skiing 28:40 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (18:40 @3) 3.41 km (8:24 / km) +45m 7:53 / km

Lazy Sunday, eventually Bower loop before dusk. Crappy conditions but fun - a lot better than run-jog as a "skill set" is involved, not so with the former. Plenty of slush & slow stuff but still about 100% ground cover. Waxless skis (which could use some wax), avoid some stones and lightly sanded & bare ground by SMs or wind. Met two friendly hunters at the start - one had seen me there this am. Finished in T-shirt - another warm, fog-drab day. M too stinky to be back in house w/o a bucket bath. She manages to find "fragrances", even with snow cover and this one was unacceptable.

Spent mid-pm with Beth in town, first at an antique consignment shop where she got my ok for "more stuff" - a set of 4 nice pottery jars for flour, sugar etc ($45, prob worth $200) then a visit to Panera & finally me to BAM for a fix of boat mags.
