Mapping/fieldwork/meet prep 1:55:40 [1] 2.48 mi (46:39 / mi) +96m 41:38 / mi

Map walk latish in day. Overcast & chilly. Went to west section, walked nearly 300m, no compass. Back to car, not there. Back home, got compass (on table), 305 & camera & went to other side of map so as to forget. Met a Woodie Burbank walking his dog. We talked about people shooting & trashing the forest as well some more pleasant things. Nice time. Beat dogs. Z twice got ahold of MacDonald's trash, Mocha some large pc of vertebral column.

Only wildlife encountered

Missed a NEOC meet, not fitting Sat schedule.

Walking 17:00 [1] 0.7 mi (24:17 / mi)

Another grey, chilly. Dove into woods seeking small, uncrossable marsh seldom seen by man... Found it in green jungle. Maye 3 yrs since last visit. Only 250m from anywhere, yet so seemingly far away. Took awhile to find the path, always a "relief" at some level to return to simple walking, simple direction finding etc.

NHH home, maybe 50F, excellent conditions. Fine spring pm. Felt good on hills. 305 didn't give climb for some reason - went bk to last run. Suspect MHR, too. Certainly no 5 effort. Did divvy up the mix but then it disappeared somehow. All's well that ends well. Saw Ravi L at BHS tennis courts watching son play tennis. TGIF. Time for

Mapping/fieldwork/meet prep 26:00 [1] 1.0 mi (26:00 / mi)

Checked an orange streamer Beth put out last week. Not quite in right place. Windy, cold-finger am in open.

Note

No noon run, no enthusiasm, blustery day. Noted on the way home:

Walking 17:00 [1] 0.5 mi (33:59 / mi)

DP, calm & blue. Went to Sandbox. Had not considered visiting a few cp so no streamer tape in hand & thus unable to be useful...just play. Not much SB use recently, not many prints. Tried 'The Tree' for a bit. Could have walked across I suppose but wasn't up to it. Probably won't tell Beth since she'll go back & cross it. Not a fan of balancing acts, 'head trips'/focus actually. Am visualizing a fellow walking a tight rope between skyscrapers in Manhattan. Left out the color yellow yesterday - an oversight of no small import.

"Dr. Chern found dead" day, surprise on the front page but not really.

Noon wander, needed something refreshing. Back to 5th District Rd to run
the loop I passed up last week. Past little white caps dancing on Penacook
Resevoir. Very congenial envt: along Lakeview onto public works water right of way, back along Carter Hill, right on W. Parrish, left onto a trail I was suspect of - deja vu, repeated the old error but still took me where I needed
to go...followed the sun. Avoided Ross View bldgs. Lovely view to the NW
from the N end of the fields. Thought I'd not been there in years but recall being there w/ Diane so '08. Property I was infatuated with some 10 years ago still unchanged. Breezy, be-animated day yet the zip is indeed a bit zapped for the usual reason...not as young as I once was. Left 305 at home.

Walking 17:00 [1] 0.7 mi (24:17 / mi)

DP to slough. Gem of a day, cloudless, brisk. Blue, several shades of brown, green only colors. Rim of ice. Mocha paused on path. We got to talking. She seemed to want permission to continue which made no sense. When I said "it's ok", she picked up the disguised pc of animal feces I hadn't noticed. So that req'd undoing but no feelings hurt.

Early spring at the slough

Luti Slo-Go. Just cover the distance. Had the thought of adding some extra distance but thought 'next time'. Crisp & bright. Saw Liz G - possibly first time in nearly 8 yrs. Visited the SPS chicken coop - everyone inside, not sure why. Think the door was open but who'd want to be cooped up.

Woods/trail 35:00 [2] 2.5 mi (14:00 / mi)

Over to CHS track/fields, some exercises & jog in woods, out of wind*. Perfect early spring day. Asked nothing of the legs - better care, better result...?

*First stuff I saw was a plastic bag & scattered clothes. 150m on, a chair. Another 100m, a belt hanging from a tree branch. But no homeless enclave as I'm apt to find in this area. Thoreau passed thru my mind: "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately". Not sure about deliberation, but wouldn't it be intriguing to find a highly educated person in said place...and to have a conversation and maybe return for more. 3 tents over past years.

Mine Falls, April Fools day meet by Pete & Lex. Sunny, very pleasant. I'd give me a A (spiked all the cp's) except for the run in from the last control which I'd give a "Z". On way to #1, there was some unmapped green over the SG, throwing off approach and maybe serving as a map reminder. Wasn't entirely confident but kept on compass, water bodies to L. Reentrant was there but needed to go up to be able to make a descent to reentrant - map touch-up req'd. #5 was a long trail run - a 5k at Mine falls I reminded myself. Expect some misery. #7 - saw contour to left & hit cp w/o delay - was pleased. #10 - another log trail run, had expected to pass under IS 93 (could have by climbing fence), went in early, heard it was further fm PL than indicated. Went to #14 & uphill out reent, across parking lot to corner of a fence (right where I'd parked). Instead of having the sense to climb or retrace (dumb as a mouse in a maze), ran all the way to the gate/entrance, adding maybe 300m - about 80" given to charity.

QR (don't think I ran on water this time)

Beth tried the orange out back here for the meet in 3 wks. Didn't finish, got feet wet, was tired, dogs beat. Maybe some changing, not sure. Think it's ok for orange - but not motivated to risk disappointing people.
