Fisk-Little Pond, CW, NW chilly was a surprise. 3+ mi into wind &/or uphill, then the opposite, not surprisingly better. Paged once, HRM adjustment & fp shift.

Road running 46:52 intensity: (40:00 @3) + (6:52 @4) 5.45 mi (8:36 / mi)

Luti CW, gray, good temp. O pants serve so well - some protection but light and frictionless - much different from when wet.

Walking 32:00 [1]

DP. Intention was to go to Sunapee this pm but raining, 100% unpromising. Recalled driving to Waterville to ski in rain so came home. Less than 30' later, first rays & later mild, sunny & blue. Yesterday's ice was today's mud & wet sand. Very nice/mellow on PL, felt like 50 but t said 41F. Anyway GSD: plane ticket to Key West as a warmup to the buy-a-plane-ticket hassle it often seems to be - in this neck of the woods anyway.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.5 mi (35:59 / mi)

DP, snow showery morning, second in a row - a fresh white to the ground, and a fuzzy white to the branches. Muted colors, quiet - heard a robin but they don't go south anymore anyway. Dogs pretty chipper. Ice treacherous under snow but that's what bare ground is for.
12 PM

Road running 32:34 intensity: (26:00 @3) + (6:34 @4) 3.86 mi (8:26 / mi) +30m 8:14 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Noon run - more raw than I thought. South St-Iron Works-Clinton, more
effort than normally might have since 305 was looking over the shoulder - but not really 'there' yet....

Entered brown at USOC Asheboro meet - one foot in brown, the other in green - bit of a quandry. Entered Green in GA. - same format, very easy to use!

Spent some time reading about 100 Acre Wood/Ashdown Forest.

Note

Rest day, not much energy, probably as well. Came home, wanted to do something outside but took a nap instead, dark by time I woke up. Z&M gradually came alive over course of day, returning to pest status which is good. But now cold & dark.

Faraway series, #93
Morning sun, Brae Burn CC, Newton, MA, winter, 1977.

Taken while running to work (which was at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in the
g-maps lower left). Stream making for drift runs down the middle. Boston Marathon, of course, ran right by the NWH front door. NWH was an ideal spot from which to begin a long run that might get to Weston, Wellesley or Dover. Fun recollections, the past always seems more carefree, for me anyway.
Brae Burn Country Club (seems that topo version fell off end of earth)

Walking (woods walk) 2:29:52 intensity: (1:44:52 @1) + (45:00 @2) 6.49 mi (23:05 / mi) +200m 21:04 / mi

Bear Brook return. Went to look for the gloves, the "math" said Sunday although there were other things in need of doing ("you know you're an orienteer when you walk right by all the work that needs doing at home on the way to play in the woods"). Took dogs since they were long-faced. They might as well die happy. Jogged up to where I discovered gloves were lost. First part was under hemlock - hard to keep track of prints which kept disappearing. Actually had a few false starts & dogs were printing up the weak tracks. Got going but would lose & find, leaving holes in search & confidence. In a few places, had to resort to wandering. Finally steady following but not the type of terrain where I'd lose gloves & not notice. Then a trail ahead and a familiar boulder - I'd gone the whole length of the in-woods portion. Went to end of Bear Pond and made myself start back in spite of thinking this is futile (could have taken the road). But got going in reverse direction, keeping hopes alive. Going back, it was easier to see the way - 2 sets of prints and where I'd lose the track, some memory form yesterday helped. Sun was also behind and not occ blinding as it was going the other way. Finally, back into the thickest portion by the marshes. Recalled thinking I need to go east yesterday to get to path - had lost the track today but recognized a rootstock, a stream's algae pattern & then saw prints. Was looking carefully there as in jumping across on stones might dislodge - went another 10 m and voila, the gloves! maybe 300m from the start. Rewarded, 2 hrs at BB on a Sunday was not what I featured, given yesterday's visit. Most pleased to see the dogs held up well at 10.5 & 9.5 yrs & even chased off after a squirrel when we got back to parking.
