Orienteering 1:48:56 intensity: (28:56 @1) + (1:20:00 @2) 6.37 mi (17:06 / mi) +217m 15:28 / mi

Bear Brook "adventure" - YakTrak trek, at most 4" snow, some bare ground, 43F or so. To Bear Hill Pond & camp, then some rough O & finally logging trail back to main road. Camp would make a nice center for an A meet. Dropped gloves, went back a short distance, didn't find. Maybe Monday, before tracks disappear. BB copy I used was from a local meet, 6/17/79, says, "very hot, many DNFs on red course as well."

gym 35:00 [1]

exercises & elliptical w/ new insight. Wretched rain day, no interest in anything outside. Spontaneous meeting w/ Beth.

Afterward stopped at BAM/ex-Borders for a nautical fix and fell asleep in a comfortable chair for maybe 20'.

Note

A TGIF indeed even tho on call this weekend. Happiness would be to escape deep into this Wyoming photo, a ten mile run deep into fanciful wilderness.

Maybe a visit to Bear Brook as a pragmatic escape.

Beth cleaned my bedroom closet today - that brought a smile. Was some 10 years in the making. A few things I forgot I owned were rediscovered to my amazement.

January has all but rolled over and died in this so-called winter.

Walking 21:00 [1] 0.6 mi (34:59 / mi)

DP, time flew! dogs each found a piece of backbone, requiring admonishing - as if that's of any lasting benefit. Noted numerous deer hoof prints that look exactly like hearts after some melting. Icy, crappy with new icy crappy fcst in the next 24h.
4 PM

Road running 36:34 intensity: (26:34 @3) + (10:00 @4) 4.08 mi (8:58 / mi) +131m 8:09 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

After work - had grand ideas due to fact that it was springlike midday. But smudgy and not so enervating later. Didn't want a RR. Went to CHS track, one skimpy lane mostly open but gate locked. Didn't want that anyway. Light bulb lit - went to BHS, very nice elongated/compound figure 8. No traffic, 2 mi loop twice. All the classrooms lit in the MS, takes one back 55 years!

Some 20 lined-up turkeys took their sweet time crossing BBR on the way to work - gotta love 'em for their sense of importance/entitlement.

gym 30:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (15:00 @2)

Core work & easy elliptical - mild but not interested in running

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

DP, rain turned to an icy sheet drive but cured with handfulls of sand. Parson's for that reason as PL entrance looked almost treacherous. School bus wanted to turn where we were parked, Z took her sweet time in getting in car. 50F day in the making.
11 AM

Road running 53:04 intensity: (43:04 @3) + (10:00 @4) 6.2 mi (8:34 / mi) +134m 8:01 / mi
shoes: Nike Lunarglide 3

Little Pond-Fisk loop inspired by the spring-like (51F) noon hour. Twice
hit wrong button on 305 (ran some 4' w/ it off) - only possible 'excuse' being the Casio (worn 99% of the time) has the buttons reversed. Before an O run when splits are intended w/ 305, have to remind myself "right button beginning & end", "left button at all controls". Tried to/couldn't repair data on splits one and two. Need the HRM - av heart rate has to be best indicator as to how "honest"/hard the workout actually is...getting there. New shoes - about time. Stamp out cheapness...

Using treadmill at gym w/ mph settings & realizing I was looking at mph settings on the watch today stirred up some self-competition

7 mph = 8.57'/mi= 8'34"/mi
7.5mph = 8'0"/mi
8 mph = 7'30"/mi

settings am getting used to - when I noted watch gave
mph, got to running faster - tried briefly for 10mph downhill - saw 9.4 but mph needs some averaging I'd guess.

Spring is around the corner - what could be better.

Mt. Washington again - in today's MONITOR - half page color photo in winter looking S from Washington, Lakes of Clouds hut, distant in foreground and other Presidentials behind. Cardigan & Moosilauke bring up a distant rear.

gym 15:00 [1]

Exercises, mostly core

Treadmill 36:44 intensity: (10:30 @2) + (9:30 @3) + (16:44 @4) 4.0 mi (9:11 / mi)

Treadmill: 2 mi 10:30, 9:30; then 8:34 & 8:11 (not a three, not entirely a 4). Strange walking away after running in place with reasonable earnest. Crappy, drab day - raining steadily at 5:45pm leaving gym.

Note

Faraway series, photos from elsewhere, #92

End of the road for Mt. Washington.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.6 mi (29:59 / mi)

DP mid-morn w/ bright sun & cold edge gone; snow was pretty good (surprisingly good) for skiing but had not considered - there was enough of it w/ no earth poking through in sufficient lengths, packed by SMs. Had planned to return later - later became after returning from Portsmouth, even if dark but 6pm dark/cold kindled no enthusiasm. Went there for a spar check at IBH (had put them inside as I'd believed they would), Beth whiling away an hour at Portsmouth Fabric - such a nice town with pervasive 'brickness', narrow streets, snowy sidewalks today, lovely old homes, tidal flats/views. Visited w/ Rob for 45'. A Sunday of little energetic inclination, the old-fashioned rest day with a tinge of guilt. Monday should bring renewed determination...but "Monday, Monday, can't trust that day...".
