Walking 18:00 [1] 0.7 mi (25:42 / mi)

DP - went to Arena. Saw a hunter's blaze orange first thing on PL. Felt balmy at times, then sun behind clouds. Felt somewhat vulnerable on the sl. ridge along the perimeter. Blaze Orange is not a reqm't in NH. Apparently it is in NY. In MA, hunting is now allowed on Sundays with a recent MONITOR editorial addressing it. Here it is almost always allowed/revered/a man's right. "Live free of die" - one died opening day - another, in blaze orange and part of a hunting party, inexplicably shot in the buttocks. Noted what must have been a very old hunter's stand made of plank - it was the "no leeches" that caused me to try to figure out what was what.

NHPR had a 7' presentation on O made at the USOC at Lynn Woods. Very nicely done! Around 0702, I heard the word "orienteering" coming from the radio -- that was a first for me. Coverage started around 0750 so a lot of "Only a Game" time in between.
12 PM

Orienteering 15:10 [4] 1.09 mi (13:55 / mi) +31m 12:47 / mi

Outback course, first time w/ 305. Lots of dead fall in several places. Pretty good effort. Warm, could have run w/o T after 5'. Had red on but not too much likelihood of encounter at noon hour. QR can definitely commit one to a different route next time.

3 PM

Walking 27:17 [1] 0.67 mi (40:44 / mi) +19m 37:26 / mi

PM DP off Parson's in Meadowsend area. Wandered more than mornings permit. Encountered probably Bow's second largest boulder. Found either a moose or large deer skeleton (w/o skull). Probably deer as Z was chewing on what appeared to be a deer hoof in the vicinity. Very mild.

Walking 21:00 [1] 0.8 mi (26:16 / mi)

Tp Parson's with Beth as well. Went to photograph Meadowsend easement marker taking caution not to get lost an inconvenient 15' or so. So many knolls.

TGIF kind of thing

Road running 1:45:56 [2] 9.82 mi (10:47 / mi) +120m 10:24 / mi
shoes: New Balance 1011

Home via Clinton, White Rock, etc. , a Slogathon indeed. Was chilly, almost cold. The gray sky seemed like it might offer a few flakes any moment. Ran by a fellow walking toward me about a mile from end & he looked cold! Left work around 1250 so plenty of light. Just no umph. Halfway around the world from May

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.7 mi (25:42 / mi)

Slough & back. No one around.

November PL morning

moon was a frequent flyer this month - recall it the day before haulout when starting to Rob & Joyce's from Rye & most nights it illuminated the bedroom as the weather was so clear & mild.

Trail/woods running 36:00 intensity: (18:00 @1) + (18:00 @2) 2.5 mi (14:24 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

SPS XC for what amounted to a rest day. Half walk, half jog to baseball field, some situps & continue loop. Not sure if I was quite tired or merely thought so. Anyway, more adventuresome tomorrow - hopefully not raining.

Road running 54:43 intensity: (39:43 @3) + (15:00 @4) 6.2 mi (8:50 / mi) +120m 8:19 / mi
shoes: New Balance 1011

Fish-Little Pond, CCW, 60F+. Gray w/ dark, ragged gray clouds everywhere.
Decent after first third, incl huffing & puffing of sorts. Short sleeves & shorts.

Walking 16:00 [1] 0.7 mi (22:51 / mi)

Slough & back. Encountered town employee & decided best to go toward slough. Calm morn, 60F forecast again.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

Last-of light-DP at the Sandbox. MSO at noon kept me inside. Moreover, a day's rest seemed ok as rest is not such a bad thing at some point in time. Had returning home at 'evening star' time in mind - which was quick to come & bright, eg, Jupiter.

Event: UNO local

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

DP on PL. Hunter's trucks in first 2 places. Nice views but did not go all way to top as concern for An Encounter. Sampo's block of woods adjacent to house is now rough open with scattered tress vs white. Took Sears Die Hard Portable Power along as car start was fishy. Good thing, too, because it wouldn't start.... How I love the PP which can also inflate, light up, serve as 12 v etc.
12 PM

Orienteering race 1:01:26 [3] 5.79 km (10:36 / km) +157m 9:20 / km

UNO meet at Beaver Brook, got to 60F. Ran green, did fine for first 8. 9th was on other side (or in) unmapped logged area, moderately messy. Couldn't tell whether knoll was in open logged part or in good woods beyond - contours not so very distinct. Would have liked a veg boundary & time spent exceeded my fragile psychological tolerance when maps omit significant information. Finally ended up on trail going NE & was off to #11 - 10 being too far afield. Hit every one I went to before & after. There is considerable can't-be-to-careful O here. Will have to QR to see what perambulations were executed (spent more time looking for the 305 after getting home than I did looking for control). Punched every box taking careful note, a first...? Nice clean punches. Nice Nov woods with good visibility except in pines. Meeting re ski O, Oct ' 13 BD, more mapping etc. A pleasant pm, 76 mi RT. Car battery very dead but had the portable power along.

Green course; QR

Spent some time w/ QR. One can continuously tweak the route, seems for the better. S/F never enough, more the better but finally moving the line tiny bits as if in make believe....
