Walking 25:00 [1] 1.1 mi (22:44 / mi)

Walked to brush dump, dogs on leash - rather, got pulled both ways. Uneasy and not even to PL as Got Snow was indeed there - new truck.

Note

A day for things other than sitting on train, bus & driving 4.25 hours in the car but that was the lot. Car retrieval in Cushing: drive to Exeter (lv another car to retrieve), Amtrak to Portland, bus to Rockland where Hans & Lena picked me up for the drive to Cushing. As mellow a day as November can be...cloudless, calm, a blue sea horizon thru the street and building gaps from the train in Old Orchard Beach; 3/4ths moon and lengthening shadows west of Thomaston upon a bare landscape, lovely countryside even viewed from Route 1. Then a 180 mile drive home that had me rather bored - PHC wasn't enough &, alas, no audio book. 360 mi RT in about 9 hours. Clock change tonight...will miss the light after work but have tired of no daylight til 0700.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

AM DP, around house as no dog transport car. Z & M went off, undoubtedly to/toward the deer carcass. A lot of yelling/threatening/coaxing got them back before evident trouble. Warm, nice.

Road running 46:33 [3] 5.6 mi (8:19 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

CW Luti 5, NW breezy, sunny. A runner across street, could not tell if M
or F, short, shiny hair, seemed a flatish chest, tho still seemed a female
physique and maybe 5'7". Got ahead, runner crossed road & caught up at top
of Clinton St. hill. Lynn (early 30's?), a radiation therapist @ DHMC in
Lebanon on an 8 mi run. Nice 22' chatting. Works 4 10hr days, 120 mi RT to
work, no designated lunch period, runs on day off, weekends and at 0430 workdays! Doing Seacoast half marathon shortly. Livened up the noon hour - ran 10% harder than otherwise. Mediocre sleep...Beth went off to Stow, MA about 0150 for new grandchild.

Tgif a week later, a week older

Momentary pause

love the little foot - can see metacarpals, phalangeals & "finger nails"...looks like an old person's hand

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

Another splendid day in the making, cloudless, pale blue serenity. M rolling & sliding away her Pet Therapy Day cleanliness.

Walking 40:00 intensity: (20:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) 2.8 mi (14:17 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Out at 3p - discovered zero zip, deteriorated to walk-jog. Went up
Roosevelt La & into quite a nice block of woods - not sure where it was
taking me but could see NW trending & not W as I'd expected. Eventually out between 2 houses hoping not to be spotted (woods weirdo-escapee etc). Across Trinity Baptist pkng, onto CHS fields, some sit ups & return.

Road running 51:18 [3] 5.6 mi (9:10 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Calm, powder blue with just the right nip in the shade, day to die for or maybe it's kill for. Luti 5.6 CCW. SPS construction is on a big scale. New athletic field - couldn't tell if a track. Probably highest lights in city of Concord. One runner ahead to focus on, closer but never did catch.

Juxtaposed

turned around to take this the other day, had appeal to me

Dogs found a deer carcass (yesterday) unbeknownst to us until Z vomited what appeared to be entrails with a lot of brown disgust. Took the rug out to the stream, turning it over for first-step cleaning. Shortly, some 8' of snagged deer intestine were waving in the flowing water. Z vomited again on bare floor maybe 30' later. Some 90' later, M vomited twice within 2' on the upstairs rug - the cleaning kitty was easy to (re) produce. Would like to think they learned a thing or two but, knowing our lab dogs, probably not. Except they knew we were displeased - but do they know why. Don't think M did figure out the negative side of porcupine contact - tho no interaction last spring is a plus.

Road running (stretching etc) 44:00 intensity: (20:00 @0) + (10:00 @1) + (14:00 @2) 1.5 mi (29:20 / mi)

Noon, not sure what I wanted to do - just get out. Rest day after
yesterday's run...tired legs, sore MTP joints fm pounding. Walked/jogged to
CHS track.Found dry-enough bare ground under trees - stretched etc. Was
warm enough to remove T shirt! Some ski & SS tracks. Skate would have
been possible with the 2-3" of corn snow. Walked one lap around track as
well. Might have been a March day for the temp and melting snow
appearance.

Walking 12:00 [1] 0.4 mi (29:59 / mi)

Down to stream & a bit beyond - snow too deep for interest in open. Could feel warmth in the rays shining thru the tree tunnel at the brook - otherwise fairly cold & crunchy.

Concord Heights had 22" of snow - maybe there was 14" here...hard to believe 8" more just 6mi NE but an impressive dump in any event.

Note

Faraway, long ago series, #81

Williams track in the black & white era, spring, '66
3 PM

Road running 1:39:17 [3] 9.83 mi (10:06 / mi) +330m 9:09 / mi
shoes: New Balance 1011

NHH home, haven't done since spring? & certainly not back way. Lots of hills, reminds me of the Newton Heartbreak Hills. Gray, maybe mid40s - chill was a few steps behind. Strange seeing all the yellow fall leaves against a backdrop of snow. Almost too many cars. Satisfied to have it under the belt. Hot shower, two wool tops, long johns under wool and a cold beer....

Linda Taylor here for a week - Beth & Linda chit chattin the time away.

Snow shovelling 40:00 [1]

Strange day - woke up to winter wonderland which was disorienting - one foot in the drive. NHH rounds, then over to Kittery (120 RT) to check on the boat. A few inches on the coast, NW windy but nice enough in the cockpit. Thought of running laps on Stoneybrook when I got home but enthusiasm wasn't there. Rather have a beer...a lost day of sorts. There's always tomorrow.

Rude awakening?
