Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

AM DP near Red Rocks park. Was going to walk there but a woman walking her dog made me change my mind - being of the no-leash persuasion. So many people & houses in these neighborhoods. Drove down Lyons Ave extension for a look-see back into time. All quiet on a Christmas morn. Was concerned re climbing back up the somewhat icy road from the shoreline. 17F which feels like winter.

Christmas Day 5.00, or so it said

From Gil's north along the bike path & back. Lumpy packed snow, nordic tracks, some joggers, walkers etc. At one point, went down to the beach but it narrowed and was strewn with logs so back up a steep, slippery slope. A few bamboozlements in the neighborhoods. Calm, overcast, dull gray kind of day with flakes dropping out of nowhere. A day for either eating, drinking, reading or exercising, the last in part to escape from the first three.

There was a mid-day DP omitted - down to the beach & amongst trees in 6" of snow.

Walking 32:30 [1] 1.0 mi (32:30 / mi)

AM DP "First Block" - needs a name. Don't pass thru much, mostly due to hunting season, thick in many parts but interesting & pretty scenery, close up. Crossed the marsh & up into partly medium green alternating with small open areas. Same mapped hunter's "roost" still present w/ freshly cut saplings opening the area it commands. Came out on other side on well-known path but took 30" or so to get bearings. Most interesting prints noted were those of a MTBer as people signs are few and far between. Did see Beth's "paw" prints. Highly satisfied dogs.

"Twas the night before Christmas..."

.....but I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night."

In Burlington after 3 hour drive, roll out kinks. Sun just dipping below Adirondacks. Made it to the lake front. Beth & Jenn did dog duty. 23F and freshly fallen snow, alot diff from Bow.

"Training" as the description says. Concord city road wander, mild & sunny,
a get out for fresh air kind of thing. Christmas spirit, party, eat galore inside.

Beth's Christmas cactus in bloom for Christmas...

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.4 mi (37:29 / mi)

AM DP around the Sandbox. Mild, blue to the west. Sand contours are smooth (and at 40 degrees, hard to climb): rain, freeze, no people for work or play, certainly no turtles - just little use.

SPS wander, snowing fairly hard but not sticking. Passed thru section of
wood that had been thru only once and that was some 10 years ago.
Stopped to see what the chickens were up to in this weather. Not a one in
sight, ran off, turned around, returned and opened a door on the side of
the small house on the edge of the coop. Relatively warm & comfortable
(light bulb as well as close quarters), they seemed quite content on a
winter's day. #1 is coop location, 200m on the track at 7:44 pace by watch, about what gps pace says. Somewhat a wretched day but now ground is covered - the bell tolls for the stix piles.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.6 mi (29:59 / mi)

AM DP into woods, windy. Spent some time watching the eclipse around 0300 but 'twas a shadow & methinks of less substance than....

Beth has taken a liking to after-dark DPs on the PL, light in hand. Dropped my socks when she admitted to crossing the ice last night after my telling her how I'd fallen 'flat-ass backwards' w/o a hint of what was coming.

Eventually broken hips and pneumonia are calling cards to the State of Affairs. Not invited yet.

Luti version, pleasant first day of winter. SPS deserted yet numerous parked cars. Passed a chicken coop on the edge of a field - maybe 15 chickens, most came over to check me out (for food). Could see how someone might become fond of their silly mannerisms...and actually not want to eat them.

Weightexercise workout 25:00 [1]

On the empty side, Christmas shopping. Saw a fellow from Granite State runners I recognized from spring - burning up cals on the rubber road to nowhere.

Winter gale on the Irish coast (12/25/07)

Note

About
I wondered hard if I might be able to find where I took this photo. First I had to find the map of Ireland we used. After two searches, it was located in the basement. There is a red line showing the roads driven. Then needed coast line with some off shore islands. Viewed Google Earth in likely places, noted some small buildings by a road, could be in ruin but not quite enough resolution. But there are often photos from similar vantages. And that was it: Dunmore/Slea Head with Great Blasket Island offshore. An amazing armchair mode of travel. I note the hairpin turn to the beach visited just beyond - and maybe more beyond had I the time or cared.... Beth says she doesn't care for the pinpointing of such memories.

Wood hauling/stacking 30:00 [1]

The occasional cut and haul. Cut down 2 dead trees & cut into 14" lengths. Using wood from the property feels "creative", cleans up the place and saves our buying it, even if it's only a small dent in amount we use. And can be hard work!

Black Brook loop CCW. 32F was most agreeable. Shoes good for achilles but not so good for cushioning. Lots of scenery change. No confusion at any intersection this time.

At Kimball Pond runoff, along a lonely stretch

Glenwood farm barn on a December's day - noted two mules (returning gaze) and some chickens. Took a photo last spring in approx. the same spot but looking quite different. Same mules.
