Walking 16:00 [1] 0.5 mi (31:59 / mi)

AM DP, didn't know I'd wake up to such nastiness. Drove into the woods. Near-horizontal rain in the open, looked like blowing smoke.

Trail/woods running 35:00 intensity: (15:00 @1) + (20:00 @2) 2.5 mi (14:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

PM DP, MSO at noon, didn't get outside tho it had dried out by then & would have been ok. Slightest sliver of a new moon in a clearing sky. In the open at first but then got tempted to enter the woods on a loop not visited since the spring & then continued a perimeter. Was tempted to cut across (300m) for fun & games. Heard a gun shot 5' later & it appeared to be within the perimeter so better I had not! No bright colors but it was getting dark for good visibility anyway. No parked pickup as warning but some evidently just walk out the door.

Reading re DVOA A meet causes a twinge of regret for not having been there but energy for same, ie travel, was nowhere to be found.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.4 mi (37:29 / mi)

AM DP, GOT SNOW out & about so went up to Abby La. Zoe had breakfast in bed & needed help standing - once up & out, she was fine (at nine+).

Wood hauling/stacking 1:30:00 [1]

Good portion of day spent splitting/hauling wood - neighbor helped the first hour. I'll call it 90' - it was honest! Now I have to haul a load into the house for a fire....

Hard labor

a taste of it anyway, from dawn to dusk type of thing, day after day, what a whimp I'd make (easier to keep out of trouble)

Last load from some 50 yards away, needed picking up, heaving over splitter & last log of day was too big anyway

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.6 mi (33:19 / mi)

PM DP, dogs not to be denied of food or play, they're very persuasive. Fun game of hide & seek in thick white pine.

Completely overlooked today's NYC marathon. Couldn't fail to note that it was dark not much after 4:30.

Event: Hickory Run

Orienteering 1:59:00 [2] 8.4 km (14:10 / km) +100m 13:22 / km

Baldwin Hill to brighten up the weekend, make up for not going to DVOA.
2.75 hours RT driving 120mi, about 2.5 in woods. Started gray, shafts of sun later. Walked/jogged, went straight many times. Stopped watch & saved splits so was slow to depart control sites for most part. Once, got mixed up, stopped watch, was standing on knoll with bldr on SW side - it took more than a minute to find it! But no point in running on at such a place with the expectation of relocating - unless a wall was encountered which occ helped & took the wind out of some of route choice difficulty. Without walls this would almost always be difficult. More green than mapped, too. Blue goes on & on...climb is a guess.

Dogs held up - couldn't leave them home but was aware 8k/2+ hours was a stretch. They were having fun right to the end. Zoe could barely walk once home. Gave them Remadyl right after finishing. Right hamstring was throbbing much of the time on the way home (not on the course), feels fine enough now - peculiar stuff.

A day well spent...well, there's the stuff that didn't get done here. Neighbor went out & obtained a log splitter for me for tomorrow (no trailer hitch). Photos at Hickory Run look colder than my day.

Entered splits - maybe they'll show up. Oops, found them at 24 October....

Default colors were brown and green, so blue with a wisp of white was refreshing

Orienteering 20:00 [3] 1.0 mi (20:00 / mi)

To car & extra not accounted for by straight-line course/distance.

Road/trail 18:00 intensity: (9:00 @1) + (9:00 @2) 1.0 mi (18:00 / mi)

AM DP drear, rain & dark. Some jogging, long day in the house. Virtually no weekday hunting that I can tell.

Road running 54:21 [2] 5.33 mi (10:12 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Noon, thought it would be raw but was mild & brightening. Eventually hot - running tights on as well which, when across knee, are an impediment. Had 2003 Letchworth Genessee Fall festival green course for 15' distraction. 450 miles to meet site, energy there then.

Felt a bit guilty re not going to DVOA meet but too much work: airport, flight, car rental, motel reservation, drive to motel, to meet etc & reverse Sunday pm. Did a DVOA replica last December. Think I'll drive to Baldwin Hill tomorrow to make up for it.

Walking 12:00 [1] 0.3 mi (39:59 / mi)

Brief PM DP in the Sandbox, Mocha interested in getting back to house for dinner.

TGIF
An out-of-focus Zoe in flight

A weird event...treats for the having. When I said "OK" there was a shuffle, they disappeared ever so fast yet neither dog had them. They seemed to disappear between the bumper and car body & did not make it to the ground. It was unreal - their rapid, clean, most mysterious disappearance

Weightexercise workout 30:00 [1]

After dropping Beth off at airport. Miserable, cold-rain day. Left early to get Beth on her way to CA. Not interested in running outside and zero interest in treadmill running.

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.9 mi (22:14 / mi)

Frosty AM DP, gloves & cap. Nice reflections on the water at the slough. Mocha played hard to rein in, no treat.

Road/trail 54:57 [2] 5.0 mi (10:59 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Across Fruit, Memorial field into woods, by homeless shelter (did not peek in this passing by) & corn-stubbled fields to SPS brook, goal to cross but not narrow enough anywhere or with a fallen tree for help. Along the stream in little-used woods. Then spotted a fence atop an embankment, a playing field recognized - was not 200m fm SPS track (ran a lap, reflected upon times of more energy) so considered the road-avoidance, burr-laden adventure successful.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.7 mi (25:42 / mi)

PM DP as the sun dipped into stillness. Mocha again off into something, no treat times two.

FR 305 came knocking at door. As did Allan MacAllister to talk about removing trees that might very well cause headaches, possibly heartache, as they (mostly tall pines in soft, moist soil due to the brook) threaten house/boat.

Road/trail 24:00 [2] 2.4 mi (10:00 / mi)

SPS XC one lap 19:30 to warm-up - drive off the chill in the hollow.
0.3 from car to start & return. Sunny, maybe mid-40s, maybe even a few degrees chillier in shade.

Road/trail 15:32 [4] 2.1 mi (7:24 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Second XC, trying & warmed up - best I could do, whole minute off from last spring or fall, a mystery except for lack of power of positive thinking. Nice way to spend a belated noon hour

Weightexercise workout 30:00 [3]

Weights at PF!! Full circle - PF, Golds, Racquet Club, PF. Nothing of the kind since March > overdue. PF is a large gym on the far side of the unappealing Concord "traffic axis". Easy enough parking on Tuesday, so maybe a Tu-Thurs plan.

Stopped to vote on the way home - a stuffed parking lot but invisible people...departed in about 5'. Fun to have a glimpse (at least) of fellow Bow people - such glimpses were reserved for the "garbage dump" visits of some years ago.
