Road/trail 41:30 intensity: (33:30 @3) + (8:00 @4) 4.1 mi (10:07 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

New Castle streets and came upon New Castle Commons by the harbor/sea.
Lots of quaint homes, close together, so different from here. Found GB's place.

Did 4 sets of two laps at 4 effort which felt good.

Make what you will, New Castle Commons

Note

Drive to Maine with Beth, Rob & Joyce & then away, no time for training.

Road/trail 48:39 [2] 4.2 mi (11:35 / mi) +75m 10:58 / mi

Winant Hill, gem of a fall day: cloudless, breezy NW. Legs felt pretty good.
Hamstring, however, won't let me alone & instills some doubt.

Off to Maine - which makes for somewhat of an erratic schedule and the need to be somewhat creative for the necessary training.

Walking 14:00 [1] 0.4 mi (34:59 / mi)

AM DP, steely gray sky with blue patches in west. Played around sand box, marveled at what has to be a 40' sand facade, first 8' or so vertical.

Orienteering 43:59 [3] 3.22 km (13:38 / km)
shoes: Teva

Bear Brook training after work. Fun! and of good value. no one around until MTBer's at end. Sun again. A challenge with the amount of green but well mapped. A lot of debris on the ground - not there last November when Alexey was working. Goal was to be accurate, stopped at each control for at least a few seconds if not more.

Walking 25:00 [1] 0.9 mi (27:47 / mi)

Walked thru the part of map I'm to field check. Only one path, used to be two (could still see it disappearing in the green). Was thinned out some years ago - now alot of regrowth in the way of white pine - even dark green in places, not much in the way of relief, not of much use. Bear Brook - 30 plus years of old & new.

I've always admired this field (hx, location, lack of competiton...etc)

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.6 mi (24:59 / mi)

AM DP, warmish, spitting rain. Dropped off a mouse & then went walking in woods, playing "find me" - which they always do w/o difficulty. Then they disappeared, back to shuffle in the leaves in search of the mouse. Muted colors, wet earth smell.

Trail/woods running 29:00 [3] 2.9 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Dreary PM DP, me too as no noon run. Raining, overdressed, overly warm by 10' which was just fine. Finished up abput 6p, dark here 6:25. October drear....

Note

Time to get back to the gym. Never too soon - or too late. Have completed the local circle of three: Planet Fitness, Gold's, Racquet Club - changing, initially for a traffic congestion consideration and, twice, monthly cost. I've always taken fitness for granted (and free). Now not so clear-cut. The MSK needs special attention, eg., I've barely done a sit-up since exiting the Racquet Club around March - when daylight began & so, no issue. Now daylight is gone. Beth just handed me a PF flyer: "$10 down. $10 per month, no commitments". Been there before. I guess this be full circle even if across the traffic axis. In any event, the idea is to perform better and forestall inevitable deterioration.
