Out at 4p, not sure I was going to be away so long. Around Bog Meadow, used Sheridan's Way and Steer Brook Trail. Mellow day sans dogs.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.4 mi (44:59 / mi)

AM DP, had 2 mice along, one still in back of car so Zoe couldn't wait to get back to tail gate. Dream on, Zoe.

Last night's mysterious moon still well up in the blue, blue west. A photo was not in the cards tho the camera was on Walden shore.

Road running 47:23 [3] 4.0 mi (11:51 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Midday, breezy, lovely. Legs were rubber, not really sure why. Started Luti, ran thru SPS, by large-scale construction then across track onto SPS XC, out other side to Clinton; managed one 8:33 mile as a "high" point.

Walking 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

AM DP on Parson's Way - not been there in quite a few months. Construction just waiting to happen but quiet for now. Blue beauty of a morning.

Road running 48:23 intensity: (38:00 @3) + (10:23 @4) 5.6 mi (8:38 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Noon CW Luti, sky full of clouds but with some sunny holes > turned out to be
almost insufferably hot. Had to backtrack in SPS for construction. Energy
decent, call it 15% 4 effort..

Swimming 21:00 [1] 0.5 mi (41:59 / mi)

Walden swim. Last night was the August night for such (moon had already been up 2 nights under cloud). Was clear & full of promise at end of work day. Drove down with Beth, dinner in Chelmsford. Had the dogs who needed out but Beth usually not so permissive with them. A place like Walden is riddled with "no" rules, including dogs even though this was well after visit hours. Too hard to find a place to leave the car (unless in town) so she dropped me off around 0850. Saw the moon from Concord center looking big, round and mysterious. Had everything I needed as stopping was really only momentary. I had Walden all to myself. Well, I sensed Thoreau's ghost. Down to the far end - by then had used up 20' in preparation & said I'd be back by 45' total. Had to hurry along...but out, out upon the deep dark water toward the moonlight path to the east. Had fins so staying afloat was not the work it was previously. Running shoes and flashlight were in a tied-off plastic bag. It was over too soon, wish I'd had time to linger. Did not get home til 1115. A fun evening retracing old and making new paths on the road that is life. Copied the accompanying poem more than 40 years ago for its appealing imagery.

Trail/woods running 40:00 [3] 4.2 mi (9:31 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Nottingcook after work, raining hard at noon. Might have gone out had I had a cap. Ran around Bog Meadow, started cool, shirt off, later on, off again. Not enough energy. Not really much hardish running past 2 months - hot summer, strung hamstring mentality - tho may be time to "burn" that flag. Encountered Beth & dogs departing forest by car after their jaunt & before their dinner - neither of us needed the other for company. Carrying a camera offers opportunity for pause, perhaps to catch one's breath.

But season's change demands picking up the pace....

Mundane, slow turning change

Walking 17:00 [1] 0.5 mi (33:59 / mi)

AM DP, Upper gate, breezy, cool. Started into woods but saved for another day.

Trail/woods running 46:00 [2] 4.0 mi (11:30 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

After work, no dogs, ran up road for a change, into brush dump to Bower loop & out at far end, along slough & back by great depression, down contours across flat, marshy expanse, off by nearly 200m in less than 300 m distance (fm last known pt to house) - all looks the same, largely overgrown, no landmarks/contours. An adventure. Overcast, full moon tonight but no visible moon rise, no swim for now.

Trail/woods running 28:00 [2] 2.8 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

After work, breezy, cool, beat, leaden legs, lots of brown and yellow on the paths, September around the corner. Went with just Mocha. Z has a bad paw. Mocha jumped out of back of car looking for Zoe, somehow not connecting with the obvious fact that she was not in the car in the first place. Charming, a dog's brain.

Woke up (in fact did not sleep much) aboard in Rockland - blowing 20+kts from the NE. A dinghy adventure getting ashore without taking water in the early stages. Getting away with it made us a bit "high" & entirely deserving of a sugar overload at DD.

Road/trail 46:00 [3] 4.0 mi (11:30 / mi) +350m 9:03 / mi
shoes: New Balance 992

Sunday ashore on Hurricane 46' of an up-down mostly on granite with loop at top - up to "42nd Street" - overcast, cool helped with energy. Visited "Shoe box" - one of the outlying abandoned cabins that caused some stir within back in July, '08, even more derelict now. 16 times 75' climb is the "guess" - just kept track of time. Need to try some island trails someday.

Rowing 15:00 [1] 0.5 mi (29:59 / mi)

Mostly in Rockland harbor.
