Trail/woods running 20:00 [2] 1.8 mi (11:07 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Back to bog for a repeat of yesterday, different kind of morning, different lighting.

July morning at Bog Meadow

Note

Let another (tiny) mouse go - poor thing was terrified & not far enough from house to Beth's disapproval. Went to NHH for my turn at rounds - got there just before 9a, just as Luti 5 mile RR was starting. Could see runners, lots of cars, hear the PA. It was hot - over 80F by the time I left around 10a. Drove by the finish area. Have wanted to run the race but a July Saturday at 0900 is not appealing & psychology, as it is now, made it even less tempting.

Trail/woods running 48:30 intensity: (24:00 @1) + (24:30 @2) 3.5 mi (13:51 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

PM DP back to bog to see what I might find with pm lighting. Spent quite a bit of time off trail to my pleasure. Had cap & insect repellent & virtually no bugs to bother me. A decent breeze in places helped, too. Learned there are no better views than those I've seen. Water low in many areas, leaving dried WL's. Encountered one dirt bike devotee, making as much noise as possible. Newspaper story today on destruction of entrance gates to Nottingcook - not the BBR one as it was untouched. Hard to destroy but a will finds a way - 'mudding' w/ ATV's etc is pretty significant. Paper expressed a lot of anger over the stupidity of the destruction..."considering a felony charge" at BPD.

Note

A nice day around the house, almost accomplishing the list - includes one hard-to-get-up-from nap. Felt a tad creative with a few quiet hours.

Even found this passage from Keats' "Endymion", copied in calligraphy back '68ish...

"...So I will begin
Now while I cannot hear the city's din;
I'll smoothly steer
My little boat for quiet hours
With streams that deepen freshly into bowers."

Dip time, tho Mocha seems to be preoccupied

Sun-dappled water

Trail/woods running 23:00 [2] 2.0 mi (11:30 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

AM DP, creative for a change. Small, disappearing trail to bog shoreline where I was greeted by thousands of water lillies. Light gray reflecting surface, dark stumps projecting up, mist - no camera. Someone parked a dinghy on the far shore - unusual & incongruous. More thru the woods stuff than usual.

Road running 58:20 [2] 5.6 mi (10:25 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Noon run with Diane - not as hot as I expected with cloud & breeze at times.
Encountered JB for second time in a week & only 2 times in maybe 15 months. Ran ahead at end to get back "on time."

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.6 mi (33:19 / mi)

AM DP, still, murky sky. Either read an O map or deciphered Sandskrit.

Walking 30:00 [3] 3.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Hot again, got out, couldn't find any enthusiasm - did not help that I started from bldg vs driving to SPS. Deteriorated into a challenge to find shade then said "enough" at 30' - the heat really begs/dictates to do more in am.

Walking 18:00 [1] 0.7 mi (25:42 / mi)

AM DP, cool, gray, rainy. No buggy woods, stayed under PL - not a single df.
Saw 2 turkeys on leaving - dogs didn't make a fuss, knew better. Caught a mouse in pantry which I forgot to take along. No apparent ill effects from yesterday's increased effort.

Road running 34:50 [3] 3.9 mi (8:56 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

Noon 'Vet' loop (named finally) - hot & muggy, no surprise. Saw Tom Meehan,
surprise, another NHH employee running.

Walking 11:00 [1] 0.4 mi (27:29 / mi)

PM DP, Beth as guest - some nice sand patterns from rain.
Turkey presence, dinosaurs to birds

Trail/woods running 20:23 [3]

AM DP, usual cast of characters. Enemy dive bombers/fdf's particularly
frenzied. Took a full 5' to de-bug (the mentality to be more accurate) before getting back in car.

Am beginning to think it's time for a run home or a Little Pond loop. Have had a lot of rest, no testing, no strengthening, mediocre stretching - but it's about time to test - feel guilty for not making time for strengthening exercises....

Trail/woods running 15:59 [3] 2.1 mi (7:37 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

SPS, another hot day. Gave XC a try with more effort than in quite
some while - still cautious. 15:59 was fine given caution & heat.

Trail/woods running 15:05 [2] 1.5 mi (10:03 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

15:05, 2 - to start & to stream for a dip (with a big bullfrog watching) &
back to car. There were 6 cars parked in direct sun when, not 75m away is
enough shade under the Rt 89 bridge for an easy 10. Why prefer parking in direct sun @ 88F....

Passed by a group of 6-8...2 female adults, the rest kids (included a stroller) at the same place where I took a dip last week. A few apparently were getting ready to do the same...down a 10-12' embankment to a rocky shore.

On the sandy part of the XC track, I noted stroller tracks, did the math & concluded a mile + "stroll" (double for RT), the last part (some 250m) up a narrowish, rooty path. I'd hoped to re-encounter them, as I had admiration for the enthusiasm/energy getting there & back, esp considering the heat, but did not.

Trail/woods running 34:00 [3] 3.4 mi (10:00 / mi)

Dix again, went ashore around 0800, should have gone alone earlier. Blue/sunny for a change. Had considered 5mi but was a bit of pressure to get back to boat.

Was thinking of some PM DP at home after long drive but hi 80s makes it rather uninteresting - beyond call of duty. House is hot, too.

Trail/woods running 48:23 [3] 5.0 mi (9:41 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

5 Dix I laps on island paths, misty, rainy, fog-filled at one time or another - always warm. Here with Scott, Kitty, Beth, Peggy. Hamstring has gone unnoticed on recent, easy runs. Camera battery flat:(.
