Road/trail 32:00 [3] 3.3 mi (9:42 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

AM DP around Bog Meadow. Still cool. Forgot a cap for averting fdf madness, decided against turning around - I'd practice mind over matter and did quite well except at beginning & end. Yet another nice day.

From Sahara dunes

to mature green bog in a short distance

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.9 mi (22:14 / mi)

AM DP to slough. Still bright blue, green all around. Could hear bullfrogs from 100m away - "sounds like you've got a frog in your throat". Had a treat to coax Mocha back into car - turned around, she was nowhere to be seen. But when seen, the treat worked nicely.

Road running 1:10:00 [2] 6.5 mi (10:46 / mi)

Noon 6.5 @ Dianespeed. Luti, CCW, for start then across state trooper property onto Ironworks, back on South. Lo 70s, breezy, dry. Encountered a few kids in front of Bassi's house - one was Chapin whom I would not recognize, have not seen in years. A 12 y/o who ran a 20:12 at the CH 5k in May.

Being gone 70' at lunch is something Di & I have in common - so what of what they might think. Running with Diane means no cutting corners, however. And she would not cross the SP property on short grass "because of Lyme." To her credit (56), she's running all the mountain races except Mt. Washington - can't recall why not, did so last year.

Looking at USOC maps/courses/routes in Washington. Admired Czech Michal Besta's interesting web site of maps/courses w/ QR*. An excellent presentation in publicizing O competition (might expect from an elite European) tho not something I'm going to pursue or even could pursue - there's more computer/web savvy there than I'm capable of/motivated toward.

*guess it's 'DOMA' but not on my radar screen...maybe Christina once a while ago...

Walking 20:00 [1] 0.5 mi (39:59 / mi)

AM DP, another gem of a day, still cool, few fdfs - maybe they know June is their month. Stroll thru the Sand Box, up a steep side (left me breathless) & along cart track. No one there.

Reminds me of a hike in the West

And prompts the fairly frequently occurring thought that I wish I was out west orienteering.

Road/trail 45:58 [3] 4.6 mi (10:00 / mi) +60m 9:36 / mi

Over Winant hill - had not been there in maybe 2 months. Into the woods
behind the Methodist church & up to a great view SW...green rims of hills
to Monadnock under banks of clouds. Then down to water tower, back on
Auburn. Best sights: a tiny chipmunk crossed 4' in front of me on a path, a
yellow lab puppy with the usual degree of enthusiasm accorded all puppies.
Tired but hamstring said nothing!

Walking 23:00 [1] 0.7 mi (32:51 / mi)

AM DP, gem of a morning, the last of June, alas! Virtually no fdfs in open Arena. Only noteworthy item was dogs chasing a turkey & the young femme tailing-gating me close enough that I got out of car at Bow Bog-Allen and pointed out said behaviour to her (one car length est. at 35 mph). She reached for the door lock. I was not showing the anger I had. I said "Don't you think you were following too close?" "No." "Well, you were. You were tailgating." "OK". And that was that. Road rage might just be around the corner anywhere one goes. At least she wasn't talking on a cell phone.

There's a reflex upon leaving NHH parking. Get in car, start engine, put in gear, then dial on cell, while awaiting turning onto moderately busy Clinton.

Water Tower, CW, with Diane. Dry, breezy, very nice.

Road/trail 50:00 [2] 4.9 mi (10:12 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

SPS ramble, warm but breezy, dry. No fdf's in preppy SPS woods. Stopped by Bassi's but no answer to cowbell. Thru construction & then XC course, wishing I was running the splits like the 'old' days instead like just plain old. Had gallon of water in trunk & some for washing off salt was just the right thing - cooler quicker.

Trail/woods running 22:00 [2] 2.2 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: NB 993

PM DP, wanted to get out & remind myself why we tend to stay out of NE summer woods*. FDF's ran right over, greeting me in large numbers. Toured the Bower loop, dogs finding every mud-hole they could (& this outing was their idea). We emerged in sunlight, Zoe breathing like a hot panther, Mocha snapping at her tormentors. Still, what would we do without such opportunities:-).

*also to loosen up after sailing (a lot of sitting in general) as well as bus & train today.

Road/trail 1:45:00 [1] 3.0 mi (35:00 / mi)

Walk on Metinic Island (wsw part of chart) with Beth...sheep, gulls, nesting terns mostly. Privately owned by the Post family for a long, long time. Baaing of sheep was so Hebridean/Scottish but no bracken. Had considered a run but was tired & it would have been a bit antisocial as well.

Like ducks in a row

Pecking order
