Trail/woods running 31:11 [3] 3.5 mi (8:55 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

DP Saturday. Beth in Vt., boat cover day as well as Halloween/end DST. Wood roads festooned with hunter pickups. Warm enough to finish up w/o shirt. Warmfront wx, leaves flying. Went to nearest ice cream cache & bought 1 gallon French vanilla & one of choc mint chip.

Reading AP tonight got me back toward track, maybe CSU Rocky Woods tomorrow - was not on radar, more boat/house/yard catching up but some chores can wait. RW was first meet of spring '08 for me. Next week's CSU Sunday event heretofore only local, the FFI where no MP is first & foremost:-).

Trail/woods running 18:49 [3] 2.1 mi (8:58 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

About same time & place as yesterday, trophic run to keep in touch when time is short. Lunch not possible. Nice temp & kept dogs satisfied.

Trail/woods running 20:00 [3] 2.1 mi (9:31 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Nottingcook loop with dogs who sat in/around car for most part in Rye. We all needed a breather. Arrived at Hackett Hill tollbooth at same time as Rhodora (quite a surprise as only other time I've seen her on the road was around Wiliamstown in '93) so hung around while Rick & Kevin blocked her up - then escaped to end-of-October woods.

Green 740 '92 Volvo leaves tomorrow to Good News garage - a good friend who has been with us since 1/98. A Saeger mobile in style etc but not going to Dedham.

Note

Drove over to York, plan was to take boat to Rye & have a nice 5 mi run by the sea. Was blowing NE 30+ kts at IOS. First clue was leaves blowing along Rt 95 & tree branches bending in the wind. First glimpse of the water was a WTF, NOAA again wrong re forecast. Leaving York harbor was ill-advised, the occasional breaker across the channel making the point obvious. Visited Ben, came back to boat around 3:30, raining hard. Went aboard, stayed there. Rained stopped around 2030, wind quieted 0145. Started engine for 4th time at 0445. First light in east around 0610, away at 0650. North wind eventually to 15-18kts, big swells at York mouth & Rye entrance. Peace at last, on the truck - boat in drive by 1530. Always hard to believe the transition from boat afloat, masts & sails, to sitting ever so still 60 miles from coast, most everything put away.

Trail/woods running 18:11 [2] 1.2 mi (15:09 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Usual am DP, very misty.

Road running 37:20 [3] 3.9 mi (9:34 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Noon, alone. Sky reeked of rain. No frame of mind for final Tu track w/o - makes 4 I missed (one boat, 2 Alexey, & gen'l everything tonight). Next spring.... Too much to do, boat in drive Thurs. With back to standard time, running home not an attractive option. Tried that 4 times just before BHT last Nov & cars in dark drove me crazy, a bit of a deer in headlights.

Note

Alexey over for dinner last night. Brought some of his maps - most impressive.

This is a piece of Governor Dick Hill, DVOA, 1/5000 - not sure why one would map something so complicated:

This from Turkey; said he could call this all semi-open & do in 10 hrs or do it this way, take a 100 hrs...

Dense trail network near Moscow:

Noon, decent energy, Luti but picked up SPS XC for 3 splits. Passed Diane taking it easy after 15 mi trail race yesterday.

Trail/woods running 14:19 [2] 1.2 mi (11:56 / mi)

DP, bright, just right temp. Amazing how clouds & rain slipped away under the cover of night.

Wood hauling/stacking 2:30:00 [1]

Stacking & hauling with Aaron in the outside gym. Made sure I tired myself out. 6 cords finally stacked.

Orienteering 1:31 intensity: (30 @1) + (1:01 @2) 7.0 km (13 / km)
shoes: Loco training

At Bear Brook, went to find Alexey & look over some of the area being mapped. One part of spurs, depressions, knolls very attracitve, woods quite open. BB has alot of green, however, as well. Went all the way to swamp. So many recollections of time spent on skiis or foot O. The ski O I set up but never happened due to lack of snow. 32 years of BB this fall. Had last revison from '98, course Ernst made Sept '98 in this area of fine contours. Took dogs who are now flattened on floor. A fine day with temp near 60F.

Alexey at work...
