Rowing 40:00 [1]

As honest as going to gym - 4 trips to boatyard dock with dinghy full of people/stuff.

Note
Trip to Horseshoe Cove with Hans Bengtsson, Peg M & Beth to visit Aaron Glazer & Ann Humphrey. Had a nice dinner, older NEOC'ers Downeast. Probably too much of Aaron's good scotch. 3 hrs drive, 4 hr sail, 11 hrs from time I got up t time we got to dock. Tiring but worth it, I suppose. Little to no sleep thinking about SE gale warning forecast & how ill-advised it would be to return to Rockland harbor. Got Ann & Aaron to drive the 3 of us back to Camden & Rockland - then a long drive home Sunday. Left boat in Horseshoe, lovely but too-far-to-be-practical place, esp with October around the corner.

Trail/woods running 50:00 [3] 5.3 mi (9:26 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

Noon to WaterTower; started with Diane but went over Winant Hill & got back at same time as she did. NW, breezy, near misses from a few acorns.

Scottish terrain, recollections ...

Trail/woods running 38:14 [2] 3.7 mi (10:20 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Noon jog with Diane, much same as yesterday.

Trail/woods running 15:19 [4] 2.1 mi (7:18 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

SPS XC after work to see what I can do - slowest time I've run since maybe spring '07 there. The 1:45 first did not tell much, the 2:13 was not good (used to 2:06-08 for a 14:40 final), the 3:24 4th (3:12-3:16) was discouraging enough to want to stop.

Trail/woods running 9:40 [3] 1.1 mi (8:47 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

DP when I got home - did standby loop in Nottingcook trying - but stopped after first split. Have done this 8:20 to around 9:10. Think problem may be left thigh muscle strain - virtually no discomfort...but a "dead"/weak zone. Occ resort to putting hand on left kneecap to lift leg, eg, into car to get in & also to step into pants - or sit or get stuck & sit quickly so as not to fall. This past Sunday at Rattlesnake it was hard to get left foot over some of the deadfall. Driving home w/o idle involved suspending the left foot alot on gas pedal & clutch which also was hard & caused telltale soreness/weakness in the thigh.

Evidence of 'disability':
5k race 2 wks ago (23:46, 1:45 off last time)
last Tu track 400s, 7' pace/400 with 200 jog/rest
splits for today's well-known/old standby loops

Trail/woods running 41:19 [2] 3.5 mi (11:48 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

GoSLow starting on Silk Farm to bike path, along & under 89 onto SPS & back to car. Warm. More or less rest. Pondering fatigue/asthenia as med side affects listed for ACEI that I take.

Track 40:00 [2] 4.0 mi (10:00 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Granite state track workout. Ran 3 mi warmup with Mark, a HS science teacher who took some of his middle school students to Nevada last week to launch a rocket & coached nationally ranked XC teams at Unity college in Maine in past. Eventually covered 6 mi on the track, a surprise.

Track 13:52 [4] 3.2 km (4:20 / km)
shoes: Loco training

8x400 w/ 200 rest: 98-105"... not much, just under 7' pace with rest. Last 98"...big deal. Likely tired from Sunday, perhaps "chronic leg fatigue" (like that one, not my idea) from time of year/circadian. Hard to believe I was running sub85s or 6:30s as dress rehearsal a short while back in July. Will try SPS & revisit the situation. Nice running with a group tonight in 400 on, 200 rest style.

Trail/woods running 25:00 [2] 1.5 mi (16:40 / mi)

After work, remains of the day, a lovely one at that. Dogs & unanticipated route in Nottingcook after encountering a fellow & dog cutting wood. Starting to look nice w/ yellowed ferns. Bracken & brashings....

Orienteering race 1:54:09 [3] 10.3 km (11:05 / km) +390m 9:19 / km
shoes: Teva

US Ultra long champs, Rattlesnake Hill, Ossian, NY

Pretty good, near B+. A few times my aim off failed & I came right out on the desired locale - which isn't exactly being in control. #7 demanded careful map/compass/ sense of distance. Should have stayed in lowest area & been more pedantic. There were 2 runners ahead of me going same direction but I thought lowest area appeared to be to right. So went right some 120 m or so - woods became thicker & certainly no sign of water drainage so ran some 125m directly south to compensate - saw woods open some, a few runners & voila. George Walker did this leg just right even tho coming from another direction. Rest ok - will be interested in comparing leg times. Did not have any umph. Left thigh, tho it is not sore/ does not hurt, seems weaker than right. All in all, result I can live with, first M60 but some 12' behind Tim P. etc.

Note

475 mi home, needed to keep gas pedal pressed some most of weekend to prevent motor shutting off (probably the throttle body, a new item on the landscape). Ran into construction on Mass Pike & resorted to breakdown lane which resulted in conversation with state trooper. Glad to make it back to driveway. Nice camping eve with leaves rustling above in 2 small trees, one distant dog barking but spacious & otherwise pleasant and for $10.

Two versions of early Sunday, driving back from camping...

And ever-cheerful Beth who completed brown short (tho not quite finding #3, neither did Ruth Johnson) showing off her non-pride "injury"...3 hrs 21' was a good test of her meniscal surgery success...lay person might call this a bloody nose:-)
