Note
Rest/day off, strange day. Started when Beth got up in middle of night, no electricity/power. Some electronic 'protest' noise regularly repeated itself in kitchen, drove me crazy, groped around in dark, found 10" matches, went to basement for torch, match went out etc. Finally found torch, looked at beeper (as it was my call night, AAA battery perhaps low) which was not source of sound. Pulled out most plugs. Sound too infrequent to locate but frequent enough to be irksome. Back upstairs, in bed to wings fluttering just over my head. Had opened window earlier to hear the rain - no screen... Tried to ignore the sound but it was unmistakable & needed an ID - turned out to be a bat that I eventually got out the window. Guess insects were out in the rather heavy rainfall. Then (too early) day came, off to for what was going to be an acknowledged wet start at the waterfront. Very windy on coast (not here). Rockland waterfront really hunkered down, Geoge's launch was not functioning. Wasn't thinking of going out, too bouncy but, perhaps strangely, opted to drive home vs night in motel & perhaps enjoying Rockland from a different perspective. Had soup from Hannaford's in a Rockland pkng lot, drove home the 180 mi, a 360 mi trip for lunch in a parking lot in Maine. Had an 13.75 hr audio book, made a dent in that considering 7 hrs in car. Not much enthusiasm for running when we arrived home though only 6pm. Prairie Home Companion anyway. A first in some 15 yrs, driving all the way there & back & not getting aboard. Somewhat neglected Rhodora will have to wait another week for bilge check & tlc/use. Perhaps I'll double up on the running tomorrow. No dogs staring me down as they're at kennel.
