Note

Rest/day off, strange day. Started when Beth got up in middle of night, no electricity/power. Some electronic 'protest' noise regularly repeated itself in kitchen, drove me crazy, groped around in dark, found 10" matches, went to basement for torch, match went out etc. Finally found torch, looked at beeper (as it was my call night, AAA battery perhaps low) which was not source of sound. Pulled out most plugs. Sound too infrequent to locate but frequent enough to be irksome. Back upstairs, in bed to wings fluttering just over my head. Had opened window earlier to hear the rain - no screen... Tried to ignore the sound but it was unmistakable & needed an ID - turned out to be a bat that I eventually got out the window. Guess insects were out in the rather heavy rainfall. Then (too early) day came, off to for what was going to be an acknowledged wet start at the waterfront. Very windy on coast (not here). Rockland waterfront really hunkered down, Geoge's launch was not functioning. Wasn't thinking of going out, too bouncy but, perhaps strangely, opted to drive home vs night in motel & perhaps enjoying Rockland from a different perspective. Had soup from Hannaford's in a Rockland pkng lot, drove home the 180 mi, a 360 mi trip for lunch in a parking lot in Maine. Had an 13.75 hr audio book, made a dent in that considering 7 hrs in car. Not much enthusiasm for running when we arrived home though only 6pm. Prairie Home Companion anyway. A first in some 15 yrs, driving all the way there & back & not getting aboard. Somewhat neglected Rhodora will have to wait another week for bilge check & tlc/use. Perhaps I'll double up on the running tomorrow. No dogs staring me down as they're at kennel.

Trail/woods running 21:00 [1] 1.4 mi (15:00 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

To beaver slough for DP, not much interest in running this particular time of day. Long sleeves & leg cover. Not a bug around. Season of 'mellow fruitfulness' is soon to be. No running races on the horizon tho need some. Boat this weekend, probably leaving me with Pulpit harbor loop. Need to look up Herb Parsons on North Haven, old racing nemesis from Cambridge, late '70s. Twud be fun.

Road running 46:18 [3] 4.7 mi (9:51 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Noon, nicely cool - short Iron Works loop & 3/4ths mi at CHS track, need to get back to intervals.

Trail/woods running 29:20 [4] 4.2 mi (6:59 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Great weather, cool, dry at noon. SPS XC - considered not stopping between
laps but needed to stretch, stopped for one minute. 15:00, 14:20. Started sl slow, thinking about hamstring feed bk. Nice to have energy now & then. Sense & scent of fall.

Trail/woods running 22:48 [2] 2.0 mi (11:24 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

AM DP maybe 60F, warm sun on powerline. Left hamstring sends reminders but works fine. Left calf always knotted first thing but goes away completely until next am.

Trail/woods running 47:01 [3] 4.3 mi (10:56 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

Winant park/hill at noon. Some root-strewn trails, did it better than last week... Diane on vacation this week.

Trail/woods running 29:06 [4] 4.2 mi (6:56 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

2 SPS XC, noon & after work. Considered doing a second at noon but ran out of time & why not quit while ahead. Much less humid, had energy for first time since Scotland - 80F+ in sun but agreeable in shade which is mostly what the XC course offers. 14:28, 14:38 - sprint prep call it.

Trail/woods running 18:00 [3] 2.1 mi (8:34 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Additional SPS at noon.

Note

Work cut out for...

Trail/woods running 41:49 [2] 4.2 mi (9:57 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Had different designs but came home & took dogs on DP mission in large part. Still sluggish but need to keep in mind Rochester A meet not so far away - that should help. In Nottingcook, standard loop, only itched when I got home.

Photogenic group...

Trail/woods running 50:45 [3] 5.2 mi (9:46 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

SPS after making rounds @ NHH, 10a, seemed cool enough in shade but humid. Ran over to the track for an 8:15 between two XC laps, tad more honest than past few days.

6 cords green firewood in drive, somebody has to move/stack...neither of us due to time & back damage potential.
Honest exercise for a 15 y/o @ $11-12/hr.
