Trail/woods running 2:25:12 [3] 13.67 mi (10:37 / mi) +220m 10:07 / mi
shoes: Loco training

Round Mountain route fm Northeast. Peeks of sun, thought of stopping at Jordan House for a break but proceeded on. Legs ok, have not run this far in quite some time. Carriage roads have lovely stonework. Great place for a road race. Beth took her own walk/adventure & covered 6.5 mi successfully (post-knee surg) - helpful insight for later this month in Scotland.

Round Mountain Route

Note

Last Supper?

Better late (after the calories used earlier), spaghetti was on the 7/4 menu. Sausage bought right here in NE. Returning to the dock yest pm, we noted 2 gulls in the dinghy. They were sampling the sausage, pecked off an inch or so from several. Wasn't til this am that I suggested to Beth that cutting away "the pecking edge" might be a good idea - keep seagull organisms fm migrating should they have any ill effects. Time for producing the sauce (in a jar) - always alot of that on board but not today. Found a jar, priced 1.76 pounds...pounds none of those since '01, Shetland. Opened the top, no pop, no odor, no growth...here, good to go, says Beth (who, after her 6 mi walk, had a dinner of cheese & crackers & none of the above). I'm guessing dawn will bring no changes but guilt is assigned in any event:-).

Trail/woods running 56:11 [3] 4.8 mi (11:42 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

From Northeast Hbr trails over to Carriage Roads but could not find map so did not risk any loops which would have takne too long. Still foggy/bleak but better in woods away fm water's edge.

Trail/woods running 51:45 [2] 4.0 mi (12:56 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Isle au Haut - ashore fm Moore's harbor around 6:30pm (left house at 0700, here 6pm). Was on wrong trail unbeknownst w/ humor & humility in discovery.
Windy, foggy, drizzly, even lonely.

Duck Harbor to myself...

Track 5:24 [5] 1.6 km (3:22 / km)

SPS track, between rains. Cool. warmup 3 times 400 but in spurts : 46, 42 & ready. Used racing flats which feel faster & prob are. Get a good start & bring it home before 'uncoordination' sets in.... Always a bit of dread approaching the line thinking about over coming inertia. Also, when stepping into pants in the am, avoiding not falling fm the stiffness - hard to believe one will be able to run a few hrs later...;)

4 times 400:

39.43, 81.17
38.77, 81.19
37.99, 81.01
38.59, 80.03
200m walk between.

Hard work but not unbearable. Was not motivated to do a fifth. Not sure I'd be motivated to improve upon this tho might be possible. Inc'd track savy....

Started on a mile considering sub-7 but did not have motivation for that,
either :;99, 3:23 (certainly seemed like an easy-do pace after 38.5-40s/200)

Track 4:49 [3] 1.2 km (4:01 / km)

Warmup: 46, 42, some 100s, 3;23 800 after

Trail/woods running 23:00 [2] 1.8 mi (12:47 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

Took dogs out fpr DP as Beth did not this am. Forest dark, depressing, felt better on powerline as it ws brighter. Smell of skunk was everywhere I went but, hmm, took me awhile to realize it was stupid Mocha who stunk (when it followed us in car, I was suspicious:)). Beth's problem...had she done the DP thing this am, it would not have happened. Now she can throw the dog in the junk car & go buy Nature's Miracle & deal with it!

However, I'm tickled pink as in not having to go to work for the next 5 days.

Trail/woods running 20:56 [2] 2.1 mi (9:58 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

DP jog before work - usual wetness/darkness/bugness tho I was prepared for latter. Results of Sunday race are incomplete - large spaces w/o times, too bad as the meet was an important one for some - did have times for top runners but I met a # who did not carry or at least did not use a watch - maybe not important for them...perhaps some noted the clock at the finish. Not sure there were any times for the M60s in front of me (did not look that carefully due to sketchiness).

Road running 53:47 [2] 5.2 mi (10:21 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 1011

Noon Birch Lane figure 8 w/ Diane. Taking it easy. Sodden summer flowers, corn a foot high. Good bye, June.

Resolution to run with a map every day this new month as well as run 4-6 of the '07 A meet courses at Nottingcook - perhaps even the BG - fact that one knows the courses/woods is not so important as just doing the exercise.

Trail/woods running 35:13 [3] 4.2 km (8:23 / km)
shoes: New Balance 992

After work, SPS XC, black sky (preceded by downpour) then patches of sunlight in dk forest. No deerflies noted (vs scads at Notingcook), a few mosquitos. Shaking out some soreness but not much & legs not really dead. 1 day left in June & only a few with sunlight. No Cool running results of yesterday's race yet....

Running race 1:22:36 [4] 12.0 km (6:53 / km)
shoes: Teva

Mt. Cranmore Mountain Race, US/NA champs was the billing tho', per usual, one can show up, pay, run. Representatives fm Mexico & Canada gave it the NA desig. Overcst, decent temp. Good energy. Did not see all the splits which bothered me a bit as I wanted to reduce it to specifics. First k was 8:30, up & with a bit of walking due to the # of competitors. Missed the second as runners hid it. 3rd was on top of mt & was distracted by waterstops - then 3k downhill which was nice & decent rest. May have been 9:30 fpr 2 combined but, again, hard to see & last k down was different fm up & don't believe there was a 5k sign. 6th (begin second loop): 9:11, 7th 7:20, 8th (steepest) 11:18 & 3 down in 14:12. 40:34 & 42:02 for the 2 loops. Might have been a bit faster had I started faster. A fair amount of power walk as it indeed was steep in places. Was in company of 2 different women for quite sometime & it was nice to get ahead of both at different times as race progressed. Was running sub-90 on some of the downhill - maybe one area of 600m of grass/dirt track & not too steep. Did not post results. Diane won her age gp, Brian & Tony were a bit behind me. All in all, a decent HTFU experience in that it was 80+' of work - not track pain but a different kind. 180 mi RT to N. Conway, 9am start. 32 more trng opportunities.

Post race discussion...
