Trail/woods running 33:00 [3] 3.5 mi (9:26 / mi)

R&R/DP in Nottingcook around 6p, mellow. Nice loop w/ water views. Still tired. Glad I got out, actually not a choice.

Nate's KUA graduation in Meriden. Fun to see all the new promise, Class of 2009. Some good speeches.

Road running 1:02:34 [3] 6.9 mi (9:04 / mi) +130m 8:34 / mi
shoes: New Balance 1011

Home fm work, Fri of Memorial day wkend. Mid-80s, wearing singlet, did not feel all that hot. Absolutely no energy, walked some. First time over an hour since '07. Hypoglycemic tired and/or left over fm 5k.

Trail/woods running 50:00 [2] 3.5 mi (14:17 / mi)

SloGo with Diane at SPS, nearing 85F but all shade. Green mansions, roasted pine needles, wafting blossom fragrances on light breeze, blue of Turkey Pond thru filter of green leaves, doesn't get better. Tired legs.

mapping 20:00 [1]

As DP, went to same place as this am w/ map & compass & clarified area under pines maybe 75msq - moved some contour lines (make saddle, 2 spurs & round reentrant) & it made sense. Nice to have the time to do something small right. Now to put a control there...

Running race race 21:52 [5] 3.1 mi (7:03 / mi)

Concord Hosp 5k, 80F (58F last yr & drizzle). First mi 6:48, flat, second 7:16 mostly flat, third, hills/up then largely down, no 3 mi marker. Last 1.1 7:48. Better than last yr: 22:01 but prob can't do much better. View 5ks as a necessary evil, no pain, no gain stuff. Took shirt off at 2 mi - that hot for me. Saw /greeted Mike Green CH CEO, unseen for many yrs.

136 in many, many. 2nd M60+ (not very many:), first ran at 6:29 pace, 20:08.
6000 runners/walkers enlivened downtown, when too many?

5k course

Note

Nice meet/weekend by Buffalo. Stayed with Cady's in city which provided contrast/excellent hospitality. May green in open woods, warm/sprinkles, cold/breezy, Bluegrass music, Sat pm barbecue, Founding Father's pub with Phil Sat, Erie yacht basin, Delaware Av mansions & park, exquisite Forest Lawn cemetary with rolling grassy knolls, impressive monuments & mausoleums, ancient sea bottom revisited, tour of Navy ships USS LITTLE ROCK CLG & sub CROAKER, 30+kt westerly at water's edge Sunday -- all provided a memorable wkend. And lousy flts home...Buffalo to Dulles to Manchester, long waits, 1130pm arrival. Orienteering was generally satisfactory yet middle & distance errors are bothersome...old insight not applied enough: take a few more seconds to save still more seconds if not minutes.

Forest Lawn, a place to die for...

Ancient sea bottom...demonstrates '24/7' absurdity...

Track 14:45 [3] 2.8 km (5:16 / km)

Went to track at SPS w/ Diane but decided I was not up for much. Jogged 400's at a bit above 8 pace.

Orienteering 40:00 [1]

Last of BG controls - 4, mosquitos, Mocha found a porcupine but just 4 quills...not entirely stupid.

Orienteering race 49:13 [4] *** 6.2 km (7:56 / km) +135m 7:10 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Teva

Sprague Brook middle. Botched 4th by not taking the requisite extra few seconds, getting in wrong saddle. 6th - pace & compass as well as terrain perusal said go by control in field to left - but it turned out to be my control.
Leg 8 to 9 distracted by m18, when I hit path was not where I even considered I could be. Came upon a culvert over stream, failed to find as I was not looking that far afield - then a small path, ditto - no idea where I was but was not going to take time to find out! So back to compass course as leg was longish & large field would do as target. Relocated in field, was only a minute behind John Campbell (fastest Grn X) on this - good RC if only I knew what I was doing. Went bk after meet & walked some of leg bkwds. A little more reflective capacity called for, as usual, when there is an error. Still, 3rd Grn X behind Campbell & Tryson. Phil a second behind....

Open woods, Harriman without rocks...

May greenery...ran along this, didn't know where I was...
