Orienteering race 1:02:55 [4] 6.1 km (10:19 / km) +170m 9:03 / km
shoes: Brooks Cascadia

CSU A meet at Pine Hill. Temp was in mid-80's (heard 95F around 4:30 pm in Nashua). Green had 19 controls (6.1k) in sl more than a sq k, extremely trail-dense, area. Tried to scan into OCAD for area measurement but couldn't get it to work. Turned map over, took some 10-12 seconds to find the first control - said 1/16, ie, using same site twice but had not been prepared for this. Just plain missed #10, ie, did not see...went fm 9 to 11. Left 4/12 on the lefthand line which took me away fm the optimal route to 13. Just plain fumbled 15 for maybe 4'. When I left 1/16, followed the incorrect line/route for maybe 125m before realizing what I was doing. Haven't dealt with butterfly-type control sits in quite some time. Then ran right by the last control, not realizing until the final chute - it had the potential for being a tad confusing - that added some 250m. The MP was a surprise until I looked at the map. 2 weekends in a row...not bad....

Finish/staging at bottom of IS 93 ramp...

Start with 1/16, confusing for me at beginning as well as leaving 16...

Leaving 4/12, followed left line, finding myself in pkg lot w/ a hill to climb...

mapping 50:00 [1] 1.8 mi (27:47 / mi)

AM look-see at BG fork - some lt green, good now, still expect it to be reasonable by the 10th. Anyway, appropriate feedback fm map. Nice day beginning.

mapping 1:10:00 [1] 2.2 mi (31:49 / mi)

Over to Crescent Lane around 5:30, finished trails. 3rd house. Smaller trails, leaf-covered, little used, basically indistinct.

mapping 45:00 [1] 1.5 mi (30:00 / mi)

Bright, clear. Some control sites w/ internal deliberations re feasibility, usu thick hemlock & what that does to basemap contours.

Trail/woods running 29:32 [4] 4.2 mi (7:02 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

2 SPS XC for new season: 14:52 & 14:40, trail bit wet, good cool temp.

mapping 1:00:00 [1] 1.8 mi (33:20 / mi)

Delineated Woodbury logging, one new ride, downgraded some trails, put in a drive, bemoaned loss of lovely woods.

Mapping/fieldwork/meet prep 25:00 [1] 1.0 mi (25:00 / mi)
shoes: Loco training

3 BG streamers w/ Z&M. Did not have full map - forgot, so went to what I recalled as designated features & was correct. Misty, warm, good earth fragrance.

Road running 53:46 [3] 6.11 mi (8:48 / mi) +120m 8:18 / mi
shoes: Loco training

Long Pond/Fisk for first time in a while. G maps showed 6.1+ - interesting how answers pop up (to nearest 1000ths, tho not shown). Still tired, poor sleeping - good for perspective though that I got in a little extra distance at noon hour.

Mapping/fieldwork/meet prep 25:00 [1] 0.8 mi (31:16 / mi)

BG control site visits, drippy forest but made me feel better than, say, the morning's news. Wet at noon, thought I might check trails after work but pouring. Picked Beth up fm knee cartilage surgery.

Orienteering 25:00 [1] 0.6 mi (41:39 / mi)

2 BG control sites in am, cold, cold hands. Not hard to spot patches of snow.

Road running 58:47 [4] 6.9 mi (8:31 / mi) +130m 8:03 / mi
shoes: Loco training

Run home fm NHH - headwind, chilly/gray. Legs not bad considering. Feet held up well over weekend. Watched Boston marathon at noon.

Orienteering race 57:09 [4] *** 6.0 km (9:32 / km) +190m 8:13 / km
spiked:13/18c shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Long. Guess this performance rates a B. Slept poorly, not enthused about 0801 start (but did not do anything about it!). Sitting in front of Barth Hall fm 07-0719 wanting to go bk to tent for 2 hr nap when I decided I really did want to have some coffee in Highland Falls! That was galvanizing...Dunkin D & bk by 0745, right to bottom of hill below start. Lots of early activity w/ high school kids.

Clean to 6, then distracted planning 8 & lost way too much time on a trivial leg. Generally ok until last section where I fumbled 3 points, partic 16 - was on compass to where it should be, noted a control to left on knoll & took a sideline for a perusal as if that were a sensible thing to do. Ran thru green briars on way to 17, twice was looking for rock face when descrip said bare rock which proved confusing, surprising as that may seem. On 17, I'm looking for control at top of knoll vs where it was, tucked some 20m away. Finished w/ scratched up thighs which appeared to make a scene. Can recall stopping at a stream in QOC land to wash away 'damage' before appearing at finish but failed to do so yesterday. Left before results posted.

There was a 46+, Tim 54+, George 56+

Another nice spectating finish for interscholastics..

Buckner memorial with Inspiration Point on Popolopen in background...

Cadets did an excellent job, a big order w/ Interscholastics. Nice maps & venues, namely Trophy Point & ski lodge. With Sandhurst military exercises, camping was mediocre. Missed being by the shores of the lake, been going there long enough for possibly a trace of geologic change. I may pay more attn to start times in future. 355 mi home fm Liberty Corner.
