Orienteering race 37:36 [4] 4.0 km (9:24 / km) +180m 7:40 / km
spiked:13/13c shoes: Brooks Cascadia

Saturday staging venue:

Ran-It middle, decent run, some hesitancy/minor confusion/drizzle distraction, legs beat; Best 34 (a 29 fm an M18), Tim P & Phil a few seconds ahead. Carl Childs 36+, Charlie S 40+.

The if-only discussion...

Nice time in DC after - Phil & I met up w/ Charlie DeWeese, Erik & his mother Maryann near the Mall. Visited Mus of Science, Washington Monument, Lincoln Mem'l, Vietnam Mem'l, White House; dinner at vibrant Mex restaurant recommended by Phil's sister. So many imposing bldgs/facades, interesting faces/pretty women, greening grass/daffos etc - bk to room around 2130.

Orienteering race 35:56 [5] 4.8 km (7:29 / km) +170m 6:22 / km
spiked:27/27c shoes: Brooks Cascadia

2 sprints (19:02;16:54) at McKeldin portion Patapsco, 2.4k ea. Open, open woods, nothing to scratch. A few momentary hesitations on 2nd but could not go much faster. Bit slower than Charlie Shahbazian, Glen T & Phil (on second sprint). Nice to see more of spring - daffodils, some blossoms.

Flying down: Elk Neck SP at the end of the peninsula: the site of last-weekend-of-March meet,'98 & '01:

Met Charlie at airport; the 2 of us and Phil are living in inexpensive luxury at Homewood Suites, Columbia, MD - 3 rooms, 3 tv's, kitchen, 2 BR's - $139/night.

Note

Day off before tomorrow's sprints. Didn't know what to do with myself at lunch. Drove to Rollins Park, read the Monitor.

Road running 47:33 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (37:33 @3) 5.2 mi (9:09 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

Luti 5 mile but decided to try SPS XC for variety - enough snow that I was glad to be done when time came. Perfect temp.

Road running 44:41 [3] 4.8 mi (9:19 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

Water tower hill loop without the water tower. Milder than yesterday. Chatted up the route with Diane who told me she ran 53 mi last week in 5 days, almost 'run your age.'

Monday Mar 23, 2009 #

Track 9:45 [2] 1.0 mi (9:45 / mi)
shoes: New Balance 992

CHS track: warm up, down. 28F, brisk NW wind but the plan was scripted & there was no reversing.

Track 15:00 [4] 3.2 km (4:41 / km)
shoes: New Balance 992

2x1600 w/ 200 walk: 7:36, 7:24

Road running 59:21 [4] 6.9 mi (8:36 / mi) +130m 8:08 / mi
shoes: New Balance 992

Rest of the script. Last 11/13 in the darkness of '08. Satisfied to be under an hour. Not really up for it. Even tho essentially downwind, there were still cold stretches. Last yr first (3/13) was 61:30.

Trail/woods running 42:00 [2] 3.1 mi (13:33 / mi)

What amounts to rest day. Yaks on snow-ice covered trails, mellow morning, dogs appeased. Groin ok fm yest, so can put that to rest it seems, unless some peculiar fall/slip, perhaps.
