Orienteering race (ski) 8:00:00 [3] 28.0 km (17:09 / km)

10th Snowgaine w/ Charlie Leonard. Temp around 26 deg, occ snow squalls, put glasses away for awhile. Lots of powder, imaginative stream crossings & climbing out of some reentrants. Snow surface was hard to see in white-out at times. Nav was good w/ 2 experienced people. Charlie has a 6th sense about Winona. Glad to be done, anorack was soaked from snow as were mittens. Needed to not stop to keep from cold. NIght at Harris Lodging, Sandy Creek with Hawkes-Teeters, some adventure racers.

Classic skiing 35:00 [3] 2.8 mi (12:30 / mi)

at SPS at noon, classic skis. Problem with binding day before Snowgaine, straightened out by midday. A flustered failure this am but good for Beth w/ new skis.

Trail/woods running 43:00 [3] 4.1 mi (10:29 / mi)

w/ Diane & David, her office mate & soc worker. Slushy but OK. David made more lively.

Classic skiing (classic) 20:00 [2] 1.7 mi (11:46 / mi)

w/ Z&M outback on classic skis, on snow mobile tracks. New skis, nice glide. Getting to thinking about Snowgaine, long way from hills of Az.

Orienteering race 42:35 [5] 4.8 km (8:52 / km) +175m 7:30 / km

day 2, considerably better. About 1 & 3/4ths min mistakes, on #4 & 5 from not looking carefully/long enough at map but at least figuring out what was wrong in 20"-30" at most. Could have, at best, been 40' plus, Sam Saeger at 32+, a few 38-9 (incl meet director) & a couple under 42' as well. Lovely land, coldish moonlit nights/frozen water first night), coyotes yapping, hot days, welcome sunrises, brilliant sunsets, one windy night, windy middays, 2 unstaked tents that blew afar, 3 nights camping/creative 'showers', very starry nights before moon, a potluck dinner, a dark & lonely road that warned of illegals & drug smuggling (Thurs night when the place was apparently empty). Visited Tombstone/Boothill. Finished up with Colossal Cave & Sagauro Nat'l Monument & night at Red Roof short dist from Phoenix airport. With Deb Humiston & daughter Hannah. Easy SW nonstop flt back to 46 deg at 1730 & car that started.
