Went to Concord with Beth to pick up a reupholstered chair & visit Walden & Concord town. Nice time at Walden - had a state park map so I could choose trails, knowing where they would take me. Went around the pond, stopping for a swim. Stopped at Thoreau’s cabin site. Also there recently on a very rainy Boston marathon day. Today was prime time summer. Continued around to find that Beth was halfway to the cabin site so met her there. We walked back to parking. The
pond was a lovely blue-green (particularly through the trees), the water warm. How nice to be able to swim there regularly, any time of day. My last Walden swim was an August night 7-8 years ago when I swam the length in the moonlight, some kind of romantic kick propelling me.
Had lunch in town at Helen’s (old favorite of Beth’s) and then walked east from Concord Commons on Lexington Road admiring the stately old homes. Headed home on Monument St through Carlisle.
