Long Hilly
Not too sure how I managed to convince myself to get out the door, but soon found myself on the WoL to Balerno. Along some very surprising and beautiful trails between Balerno and Black Hill that need to be explored some more. Sneaky back door into the Pentlands and then blown all the way to Hillend with some nice and heavy tailwinds, which explains the PR up Bell's heh heh heh. Still feeling energetic on the way home so took in Braids and Blackford with a bit of a push. Happy to have gone out and survived, both with niggles and energy wise. Realised that with runs like these it's mentally easier to aim for the half way mark at which point there's no way home except by finishing your run.

Vogrie Parkrun (route)
Race was cancelled but tempoed round with a slightly hungover Alex. Feeling comfortable but a bit achy from the week. Then did a few hill sprints (jesus christ anaerobic work is definitely my weakness at the mo) and WD'd a bit round the woods. Nice to get away with another speed session from my hamstring's point of view.

Nice sunset on Arthurs Seat. Tried to scope out a slalom course down the crags scree but it's pretty sketchy.

Long Hilly
Out to Beinn a'Bhuird and Ben Avon with Andy Mudclaws himself. Legs were pretty wrecked from the go so it was all a bit of a grind, but some stunning views of the tors and semi-inversions around the Cairngorms kept us distracted. Snow had largely gone but the streaks that were left meant some horrible crusty stomping. Incredibly warm for the time of year, in a tshirt on the way home and the views could have easily been mistaken for summer. Went through a grim spell climbing the second hill and felt like cozying up for a nap coming down through Scotland's worst boulder field but perked up after some sweets. By the end we were setting a rather nice fat burning pace to get home. Found it quite hard to eat today, food was a bit too dense but felt I needed water a lot more than recently (warmer temps).
Lovely to be back in the hills with Andy and even lovelier to struggle to keep up with him down the hills as is usual.

Banchory Boxing Day Fun Run
Despite having a very irregular heartbeat after eating a bit too much tiramisu and hence caffeine last night, I was quite excited to race again today after over a month off. Goal was to give Robbie and Michael Ferg a good race on the way up and then see how long I could hang on. Happy with what I delivered on the climb but then was a bit shocked by how quickly they pulled away on the descent. Thought I was hence going very slowly but looking at the splits I'm happy enough with it considering my terrible cadence at the moment. Hamstring held together which confirms to me that whatever going on is non-muscular. Maybe there's a chance at a bit more XC this season after all. A minute faster than two years ago which is also very positive considering that I was in good shape back then.

Path/Terrain 1:07:46 [3] 13.28 km (5:06 / km) +384m 4:28 / km

Easy
Extended WD with Robbie at first on the tracks of Scolty and then back over the tops on my own. Good chat on the way out and it flew by but then crashed a bit coming back. Hadn't eaten much breakfast so makes sense. Hamstring quite tight finishing but fine after.

Braes DNC - inc. WU/D
Nice to get to one of these this year, and a lovely, fast new area made for a good choice. Didn't give it too much oomph, mostly because I didn't have any but also just wanted to be clean on the O. Never got too tricky so got away with only some small bananas on most controls, bearings need much work. Two controls had switched codes so spent about 1:40 looking before realising (less than some others at least!). Splits were adjusted though so managed to pip Coombsie and JoshD which is always nice :-)

Dropped off in Culter and looped back through Hillhead. Knee in agony all day, obviously opposite side to my hamstring, luckily subsided completely overnight with some good old fashioned ignoring. Pace consistently under 5 min/km for the first time in a while!
