Cycling 55:00 [0]

Easy - 17km
Over to Klaretjern on some borrowed bikes. Nice to get the legs turning. Norway must be one of the worst countries in the world at dealing with cyclists. Almost got knocked about 20 times and almost watched a few head on collisions as cars flew round corners in the wrong lane. Made it there eventually and met up with Big Jon, nice catch up and day out including several dips, lunch and a GoPro movie making sesh.

Note

Not too sure what's up with me. I've been tired and ill before, but after these last few weeks I'm left with a very different feeling. My energy levels are good but it feels like I can't get myself to breath fast enough to be able to run comfortably. This is how I felt for most of Oringen too, especially towards the end of most of the days.

Need to catch up with sleep quite noticeably, and quite possibly food, but think I've well and truly exhausted myself otherwise. Hopefully the next week and a half can be relaxed but it's frustrating to know I can't go for a long romp round Hoias without most likely passing out before the end.

Easy O - Skårefljell
Another classic training with Viktor. Both tired so trudging along and exchanging the lead. Good orienteering mostly.

However

God clearly didn't care much for the world when he invented moose flies. They land on your head, drop their wings, and crawl into your hair, where they stay until you take them out, maybe straight away, but mostly chimpanzee-style with your training mate at the finish, in the shower at home, in your bed at night, or all three. They don't die when you hit them either. Horrible little gremlins.

Local O Event - Store Erte

It was probably Will's pre-race trash talk, but for some reason I was keen for a wee race with a chasing start format. Let Will off 2mins before and had Emil 1min behind. Immediately lost a minute on 1 but got away before Emil found me. Then actually began to orienteer well and overtook Will at the far end of the course. Good nav on the way back too but screwed up the last control when my focus drifted again. Feeling very bad physically but most likely the terrain and heat not doing any help. Think I beat Emil (he stopped for a bit to help his daughter) so I believe that by the laws of orienteering, this makes me the best 40 year old in Scandinavia.

Followed by two luxurious swims in two very different lakes. Next to the finish for the first one with a nice diving platform and warm water, and then probably the best hidden gem in Norway. A small lake a short drive to the east with crystal clear, slightly colder waters. So blue that you'd think it was the ocean on a tropical island. Will return with a camera but beginning to wonder what poison the lake may contain if there are no plants or fish living there (and what's making it so blue)...

Easy for a morning Swim in Tutjern with Hakon because he is going to France to find un cheri for a year. I was so tired that I don't actually remember anything from this run except Hakon commenting on Will's fetishes.
