Three Eildons 10 miler
Had a very rough night atop of Eildon North. Despite a big down jacket and two sleeping bags I was cold almost all night and when the wind a snow came things just got worse. Woke up at 5, had breakfast at 7 and then walked down soon after 8 after a very cold packing session. Coffee+banana in Melrose made me feel better though and I felt like I was ready to race after a good WU.
Burned everyone off almost instantly and was happy that this wouldn't be a proper race - more like a second session of the week. Cruised up the first climb, 300m in little over a km, in some very harsh clay mud, never been so slippery and unstable in my shoes. Over the top where I camped and then down and up the next fairly easily, only 100m this time. Coming off the top I grew a bit anxious when there wasn't any signs but soon found one and slogged up the final top feeling the climbs now in the legs.
6km and already knackered, was a bit worrying. However after a long downhill with plenty of 'is this the right way' thoughts (sometimes would go over a km without a sign) the legs re-awoke and I just cruised at a comfortable steady pace through every kind of deep mud imaginable.
Ignored the water stop as this was a race I wanted to get through without taking anything (approx. long distance winning time) and onto a good 2km of road down to the river, where it was again super sketchy and muddy. Final long climb had me worried once again but when I hit the road back home I was happy to cruise in.
Happy all things considering and to be able to push for 70mins so easily. Lovely route and good post race buffet, a seriously underrated race that I would highly recommend.

Pentlands Long
Sweaty cycle up from KB made for quite a ploddy start into the wind the easy way up Allermuir, but still felt good on the climbs. Wind was quite tough for the first 4 going anticlockwise but legs woke up at about 40mins in. Detoured round black hill, wasn't ready to deal with that shite today!
After a few easy flat km headed over to the c5 steep climb. Got up no problem, with some help from the wind in just over my race split from last year. Cruised over Turnhouse and prepped for a final slog up the military road to Allermuir. However, looked back over my shoulder and wet myself when I saw a storm approaching. No indication on the forecast so fairly annoyed at this point.
It hit just as I started the road and it was bad. Wind was too side-on to help anymore and the blizzard that ensued was a very wet one. Got completely soaked and very cold, which caused an immediate bonk and really struggled to get up the road. A bit start stoppy and began to notice the approaching darkness. Hands were beyond numb and gloves were soaked through so took them off once the sleat subsided. Faught round Allermuir and was relieved to know the climbing was over. Descended half asleep, half ice cube and dived straight into the petrol station to get changed, warm, something to eat and began to pump myself up to cycle home which wasn't fun.
Good run! Not sure I would have survived om the hill much longer and was prepared to bail and hitchhike if needed be. Frustrating as it would have been fine without the storm.

WU - 50 x 30/30 - WD
Not feeling too speedy so just nice to get the cadence up. Started in the bog, up to the top plateau, quite a few reps on the bumps of Whinny, Dunsapie, and then last 10 fairly flat or downhill. Last few were nicely quicker. Tough to do 30/30 on steep climbs when the goal is to keep running on the recoveries. Decked it hard on Whinny to open up some bacon which threw me off a bit but felt fine the next day.
