Göteborg Relay Champs - H20, Leg 1 - 1st
Exciting race. Headed off the start with Ali, after struggling to pick up my map, and took the lead out of the start flag. Pushing hard across the grass and up to 1, with Johannes keeping up with me. Smashed number 1 and flowed on a really nice line to 2, incredibly focussed. This carried on up to 6 on some pretty tricky terrain, some of the best orienteering I've ever done. But then I hit the wall and wasn't thinking anymore. Binned 2.5mins on 7 when I really couldn't read the map and Johannes punched just behind me as I finally found it, still in the lead at least. We pushed to 8 where I was snaking about like crazy and then I showed him the way to 9 and 10. Speeding it to 11 and a small mistake in the circle meant we were even again. Biiig banana to 12 but dropped J and took 13 and 14 in front, but glimpsed Ali catching up after my awful orienteering behaviour. Tired of the terrain, I pathed it round to 15 which won me even more time to then lose climbing a rock to 16. Small mistake again on 17 but avoided the hill in the process. Then cruised through to the finish to come in 2mins in front of the rest. Best orienteering I've done in gothenburg, but still no where near the norm. A few races coming up in the next few weeks but no more o training for a good few months. Need a break.

Göteborg Middle Distance Champs - H20 - 2nd by 3.5mins
All pumped up and ready to start when I was notified that there were no more maps. After a 40 minute wait I brought myself back to a semi-descent state of mind and was finally off. Really nice flow through 1 and 2. Struggled up the hill to 3 and because of this was not thinking clearly when I was in the circle. 30s. On to 4 for a parallel error, 2 mins. Refocus, and hit 5, 6 and 7 well, thinking there was still a chance. Down to the track and then misread the map going to 8. Stood in what I thought the correct marsh was until I realised I was 30m off. Had caught up Daniel though and this relaxed me knowing the rest of the course would be good fun, even though I had blown it already. Through 9 and 10 well but then he disappeared and I carried on pushing. Really awesome orienteering here getting top split after top split until 16 which everyone agrees was dodgy and 17 where perhaps I was pushing too hard to catch up this lost time. Finished pleased but knowing I'd be far down which is why I was happy to be in 2nd. This second half effort saved me but in any other race with more people I'd be screwed. Still top boy on tour, and a nice experience, although I had crushed the winner in Switzerland on the relay.

Rerun
Planning the rerun the start of the tour champs. Got to the first control and watched Tim as he stood in a wasps nest, got stung twice, ran down the hill, badly sprained his ankle and then well over and cut his hand. Walked him back because the 10mins of laughter that followed was enough exercise for me for the morning (also I wasn't feeling it from the start).

Tour Champs
Finally a good race. Rather clean running and only made a few minute mistakes which is good considering the area's complexity. Battling with Tim for the middle section and powering it along on my own for the rest. 2mins down on Dane.

Definitely feel like I'm going downhill orienteering wise, really needing a break. So just going to take the rest of Gothenburg carefully especially as I'be been fighting off a cold for a few days now.
