Note
(rest day)

Suddenly realised I'm slightly screwed for tomorrow's final swedish exam. Was about to head out with Grace but thought I might as well delay a bit more and start fresh next week.

Long Hills
Me and Will decided to finally hit the Pentlands. We weren't really prepared. Started slowly up past Hillend with some light snow, legs quite sore from Thursday and cold still not 100%. We gradually climbed up along the ski slope and we were both already feeling it. Would have been ok except the deep snow, a foot in most places, was extremely sapping. Got to the top eventually quite knackered and started battling the wind along the skyline to Allermuir. We got to the top, took a few quick beauty pics and decided to hit Castlelaw as the track looked good. Shortcut through the terrain which had some crazy drifting snow. Got to the top feeling quite good and we again decided to extend to Turnhouse. Descended pretty rapidly and along the tracks with gradually disappearing snow. Got to the car park full of black ice and completely smashed my arse off the ground. Retied my shoes and got a drink at the lowest point only to realise that holes had formed in my socks directly behind the holes in my shoes on both feet so I was pretty much semi-barefoot, nightmare! Slowly climbed Turnhouse, now quite tired. It started hailing and I pretty much bonked whilst Will pushed on. The snow was pretty deep here again. Back down soon enough and we began to head back towards Heriot Watt. Shortcut through the terrain killed me but then was ok for the final few km. Both of us were ridiculously hungry by the end with no food and we both had a bit of a dodgy Achilles. Popped into Scotmid before getting some dirty scran at Will's.
Never really been that shattered after a run but glad we did it. Probably sound quite negative but it was actually brilliant fun. We definitely could have been more prepared though. Lesson learned.

Note
(rest day)

Tough morning exam and resting up for tomorrow's adventure. DOMS have never felt quite this bad, quads sore to touch. Reckon it was all the backwards slipping on yesterdays run as well as reintroducing squats to myself.

6 PM

Road 48:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:39 / km) +135m 5:14 / km
shoes: Inov-8 F-Lite 252

Easy
Really cool one with Grace on a big loop of the seat. Headed down Pleasance to Innocent Railway and down in the darkness to Duddingston. Then up through Willowbrae to Queen's Drive and back down through Holyrood back home. Sheet ice for 90% of the run and I even bailed a few times. This slowed my Californian never-ran-on-ice-before companion right down, which wasn't a bad thing since my chest was still a little bit dodgy. Dead after the morning but gradually getting back to normal :-) .

Wednesday Dec 10, 2014 #

Road 21:52 [3] 4.54 km (4:49 / km) +125m 4:14 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Trailroc 245

Easy
Today was not the day to start running again. Chest was on fire for the whole thing. Lap of Hunters Bog and Radical Road. However gym is probably on the cards for tomorrow.
