Steady Hilly

With new running partner Paul out on the seat. Easy off the start through the parliament and up the road to Dunsapie Loch. Up the climb, saw Callum doing the o event, and down one of the valleys there after the saddle. Back up the crags and home along Pleasance. Really nice run, chatting the whole way but died a bit up the crags. Cough quite bad from the week so I've decided to stop training, ease into uni, and rest until it blows over. Can't wait to go nuts again though and it's going to be agonising watching everyone else head out for training.

JEC training Tensmuir

Bearing re-boot - really surprised at how well this went. Absolutely knackered from the night before....
Control Pick - Quite easy. Only stopped to check that it was definitely the control site a few times.

Adjusted version of the JEC 2008 Long

Started and instantly felt knackered. Somehow got through it and hardly made any mistakes. A few small misses just from not spotting the bog roll controls. Biggest mistake was a banana into the finish. Very positive stuff, hopefully I can replicate this at JEC in 3(!) weeks and by then, get physically fit and cold-free once more. Very nice of Nixon for organising this.

Easy with EUOC
Down to Craigmillar from DVC, back up to the seat road through playing fields and a golf course, back along the south of the seat. Felt completely drained for most of the second half, even somehow got cold on what was a warm, sunny evening. Running on empty...

Run and Become 2 Miles - 6th

No idea what urged me to go but I thought I could pull something out the bag in the middle of freshet's. No real pressure which was a great feeling at the start, knowing that a poor time would have reason behind it.
Saw another Darroch fresher on the start line and had a quick chat, but we were soon off as fast as possible (as the starts at these races always are). Eased down a bit but was surprised at how good I was feeling. Took 500m to actually feel any fatigue at all so I pushed on for fun, rather than take it as more of a threshold as I had originally thought. Paul overtook and it was a pack of 4 of us, behind another 3, just working together basically. I tucked in behind them and just let them drag me round. Went through halfway at a fast pace and suddenly felt like sub-10 could be possible. Pretty quickly changed my mind though as I began to feel crap. The 3 slowly pulled away as we were heading to the home straight but I managed to kick a bit with some female support. Pipped Paul on the line which he was probably quite raging about.
Not bad at all after the last few nights I've had.... Surprised at how fast another Darroch guy was running but it turns out that Paul's quite a serious triathlete - happy he's not just a gifted punter. Definitely a time I would like to chop down in the next few years of living in Ed but not a bad start, especially being in the middle of freshers.

Splits - 5:04, 5:14 -- 3:10, 3:21, 3:16, 33 -- (technically new 3km PB which is a depressing thought)

Road warm up/down 13:19 [3] 2.92 km (4:33 / km) +22m 4:23 / km

Run over to KB for the training. A bit late so was pushing it faster than the regular shuffle after a hard run.

King's Buildings Sprint Training
Very nice course and unfortunately caught out on 3 separate dead ends that I just could not see on the map... Quite tired and clumsy which hopefully explains it. Cruised round at nothing more than steady most of the time.

Steady Hills
To DVC with Nixon then with 3 EUOC boys down the road from the high roundabout, up the crags, down HB, and over the saddle from the back. Chatting the whole way except on the steepest climbs. Stumped that there wasn't more climb than this... Beautiful evening!
