LOC Double - Long - Graythwaite - Blue 1 - 5.4km - 1st by <60s
Wasn't too prepared for this, feeling a bit dreary... However gave it my best shot. Happy with 1, a challenging leg with some climbing on crags but hit it perfectly. A bit dodgy going to 2 as I ended up near 3 but not too much time lost. Back on myself to hit 3 fine. Poor route choice to 4: seem to remember not seeing the map well so didn't want to risk it and took the long round route, time lost there for sure. I'm however pleased with 5, although I was shattered climbing the hill. Nice weaving route, same as Matt who won the split.
Had no idea where 6 would be so looked around and spotted the re-entrant where the control was (lucky). I was planning ahead to 7 and almost rolled down the slope too early. Caught myself and got it well. Really enjoyed 8, coming out into the chilling open and rolling down the hill. Caught Aidan R here and raced him round the next few. A bit dodgy in the green, being very careful on every won whilst hurting my back more and more.
Finally emerged but wasn't feeling like running much at all. Aidan pushed me on through 14 and 15 but I began to pull away. Lovely stuff in 16, 17 and 18, not too much fussing about. 19 however was really dodgy and a lot of people would agree that something wasn't quite right there. (-60s). Easy finish.
Quite a jammy win I think. Again another event were I made the least amount of mistakes and won. Can't complain though, and don't have to worry about the British anymore as a selection race.

LOC Double Middle - Blue Men - 3.3km - 1st
Pretty good run on a lovely area. Some slips at the start thanks to a talkative start team but cleared but after that, lost time on 7 8 and 9 but once again caught it back up. After some lovely orienteering through 13 and 14 onwards, I messed up 17, thinking it was the crag, got stuck in a bog at 18 and was quite slow on the last few. Luckily got away with it but the time's poor. Would have suffered if it was a more important event.

Note

Big week+a bit ahead, no need to run today as there's a 4km run in tomorrow to loosen myself up. Thought I'd be shattered after yesterday but actually feeling good. Cold has gone.

Balmedie
Ran an old course on a 1:10 map to get in the mood for portugal. Found it very hard to run on the recently loosed sand and to read the 1:10 map. However I expect the portuguese terrain will be more hard packed and by the looks of the map, the contours aren't so massive.

Cycling warm up/down (Cycle In) 22:33 [3] 7.05 km (3:12 / km) +88m 3:01 / km

WU cycle to intervals, lots of climb

Road intervals (Metro Intervals) 13:20 [4] 4.0 km (3:20 / km) +40m 3:10 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Metro, 6 x 1000m, 2 mins recovery
Saving myself so only did 1, 3, 5 and 6. This worked really well as it meant I could really push Neil Jaffray as I had longer recoveries, I think he enjoyed that too.. Was going to do a "getting faster" approach but my long recoveries meant that I was starting at stupid min/km so all the reps were on 3:20 or round a bout. Somehow fealt the hill more today, tough stuff. Had a good chat with Neil afterwards and he told me all about his targets and training which is all very similar to me so hopefully a good training partner. Talked to Jackie as well about moving to AAAC but he didn't sound to happy... Also told about a newspaper appearance for last week's 3km and my orienteering goals in the Evening Express. Always good to get publicity, even though the 3km was nothing special.

Road warm up/down 18:40 [2] 3.86 km (4:50 / km) +30m 4:39 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

WU, drills, jogging between reps and short WD as cycling was good enough.

Cycling warm up/down (WD) 20:29 [3] 6.96 km (2:57 / km) +27m 2:53 / km

Cycle back home. Suffering from cold hands which turned very painful when I finished.

Road intervals 25:35 [4] 5.66 km (4:31 / km) +130m 4:03 / km
shoes: Inov-8 Road-X 255

3 x (1 min on/1 min off), 2 sets of (5x30s uphill (around 130m, 15m climb, run down recovery), 3 x (1min on/ 1min off)
As I have for the past several days, I woke up feeling pretty rubbish. Body completely fine today, fresh infact, but head still all congested. Decided to mainly ignore it and head out for the intervals. Felt pretty good below the neck, but like I had a bad cold in my head. Got through the first set with good times, the hill reps were slightly harder (not enough recovery maybe), however got the same distance on each one, and the 3 reps back were pretty tough. The legs felt completely normal so if I shake off this cold in my head soon (tea, hot showers, curry...) I should be set for the weekend plus.

Nice and easy round Crathes with Dad after collecting my world schools kit. Cold a bit annoying but running was fine.

Note
(rest day)

Spent a lot of the day with an old friend. On Contlaw Hill for a few hours so she could draw some nice views. Feeling like a cold might be coming too so keeping it easy.
