Big Weekend Chasing Sprint - Whinney Hill - Prologue - 3.5k, 280m - 6th
Was in the zone for this race. Although I chose an awful round route to 1, I only lost 15s. Took the best route to 2 and then nailed it down to 3 no problem. Was going to go round all the bushes and up the main path to 4 but changed my mind and managed to cleanly cut through them. 5 was easy and then back on myself to 6 without any problems. Began to tire running up the hill to 7 but was rewarded with a long downhill leg to 8. Hector, who started 2 mins behind me. Caught me up by 9 and we raced for a bit before he took an odd route to 10. I kept it safe going up the main path, although I was knackered and couldn't run well with the wind in my face too. The rest was fine, although climbing down the steep slippery slope to the finish was painfully slow. Winner did 24.17, Oleg took a few more seconds so quite happy.

Final - Edinburgh town - Mens Open - 3.5k - 7th - 2nd overall
Only a few seconds down on Peter B and Ewan M so pegged it for the first few. Took them all well and I was within reach of both of them by 3. However, slowed down to 4, planning ahead a bit much and they got away. Good time to 6 and could still see Ewan by 7 and 8 but then a bit slow on 9 trying to read the intricate map again. Very long route choice to 11 so my hopes of catching anyone were slim. Ran 12 and the route to the control circle of 13 well but as soon as I got to 13 I couldn't make out a thing so I hoped for the best. Wasted 40s there, running around. 14 and 15 were easy. Now into the control pick. 16 was fine, planning ahead to 18 (checking what side of the wall my control was on - this is where almost half the poeple miss punched). Fell over on slippery pavement at 17 but then took 18 cleanly, knowing exactly where it was. Then the rest was just a matter of finishing with no real navigation. Came 2nd overall as Hector and Doug didn't start, Oleg and Peter misspunched, and not sure what Jegor did. 7th on the course as I lost so much time on unlucky 13.
http://www.obasen.nu/winsplits/online/en/default.a... - Running 3rd for a bit which I'm happy with.

Edinburgh big weekend - m open - 8.0k - optimum 10.9k
After falling and scratching my bum warming up, I had a bit of a shaky start. Got the right route to 1, just not very fast. Sped up through 2 3 and 4, chose the bottom route to 3 which Oleg agrees is probably faster (and easier to attack from). Lost time somehow on 4 (probably just slow) but got 5 after correcting myself from taking a massive route choice.
6 was annoying as some roadworks had sprung up, forcing me to run 200m further, however still caught up with Craig and beat Oleg who went back and around when he met the works. By 7, after almost killing myself sliding down a mud slide, I had overtaken Craig (and Oleg in split times). Kept my lead ahead of Oleg until 11.
8 9 and 10 were clean, chose a longer route to Oleg heading to 9 although beat him there. Banged my head on the pole at 9 which made me pretty dizzy for a bit. Long route round to 11 cost me 20s and lost time on 12 from tackling the mud and grass with my flats.
Ran straight to cow gate after 12 and until grass market as an easy option and a good opportunity to plan ahead. An alleyway was closed off but it didn't cost very much. Down under the castle to 14 and back on myself to 15, back up the stairs. Probably chose the slower route to 16 as I lost a lot of height then ha to gain it running up around 50 steps. Back down the steps and through the market to 17.
Slower way round to 18 but quick through the spectator and flipping my map over. Obvious routes to 21 22 and 23. Chose a weird route through 24 but it didn't lose me much. Slowed down through the meadow controls on the slippery grass but sped up as soon as I hit the tarmac again. Quick through 29 and 30 and finished strong.
2.5 down on Oleg, 8.5 on Murray, and around 10s on Ewan, not sure on the rest but around 14th when I left (update later). Happy to have been beating Oleg for a few ( even though he messed up pretty bad at 7 ). Garmin said I ran 10.8 however since the optimum was 10.9, and i made a few detours with the works, I added on a bit, plus gamins don't work well in urban. Have a ceilidh to look forward to now!
Came 14th, pretty pleased with my splits but can also see where I expectedly lost time. Fast times going through the short legs which is good. Also 6th best on the long leg, shows that you just need to go with your route even if it's not the best and not to overthink it.

Fight With The Night 6 (big weekend)
Kings Buildings
Treated this like a race but didn't focus as much as I should. Controls were good but I ended up on a wrong side of a wall at least twice. Map was poorly printed though as I couldn't tell whether green was crossable or not. However speed was good and feeling confident for tomorrow. Just lost time through hesitations, otherwise running way under 4/km. Caught up Calum and raced him to the end. Almost ran through a gas leak too next to the chemi building.

XC Skiing 1:02:17 [2] 6.66 km (9:21 / km) +80m 8:49 / km
shoes: X-Country Skis

Went out for a ski. Ran to the railway line and skied along to the Cults bridge. Couldn't get any faster than 7/km. Path was nice and icy, although it was a lot like 2 steps forward and one step back as it was so slippery. Ran down to the golf course and skied in someone's trails to the centre. Climbing the hill was pretty tough, face planted many a time. Back along the railway line and managed to ski back home from there, with a long steep climb towards the end. Never got very tired, but good training and a nice set up for the weekend.

16km on my sweet 16th.
Wanted to go to DNC but we're going out for a meal so went for a long run instead. Out to the end of Cults golf course, along the river till the end of Culter, up through the west of Culter and back the high way. Deep snow everywhere made running pretty tough but the weather was nice. Got a bit bored at times but glad to have gone out.

Path/Terrain warm up/down 8:34 [2] 1.3 km (6:35 / km) +2m 6:32 / km

Only managed a short WU, a bit late in. + drills

Path/Terrain intervals (Cosmics) 15:20 [4] 4.55 km (3:22 / km) +23m 3:17 / km
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

Last hard session before the weekend, great way to set myself up too.
Cosmics Intervals - 12 x 75s on (45s jog/walk to nearest corner)
Basically managed around 375m round the field on all intervals. Ground was snow free (massive difference compared to Banchory and even my house) however very muddy and I'm pretty sure more work to keep the legs going than in snow. Running felt pretty effortless at times although it was high intensity. 5 of us split off ahead and lapped pretty much everyone else. Basically sprinted the last two to get past 3 corners, >400m.

Path/Terrain 5:00 [2] 0.75 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

The time jogging in between, to get to the next corner, however didn't need to on some.

Path/Terrain warm up/down 6:47 [2] 1.12 km (6:03 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 212

WD with Stuart. Started to snow heavily so finished early.
Managed to get a place in the Devil's Burden relay, possibly my first real senior hill race, let alone relay. Will be running the first leg, the only leg I can run at 16. Not looking to win but to at least make an impression. It's 7.5k with 250m climb so just around my perfect distance.
