La Cabrera Mountain Half Marathon, 4th place, really tough race. By far the most difficult half marathon I have ever done.
Happy. Extra time at the start because I started my watch before the race began.
When the gun went off I started running at a pace that I felt was more or less a comfortable pace for the first half of the race. And apparently that put me 1st, until the first climb. That's when Alfredo Gil, a really good Spanish, mountain runner took the lead and never relinquished it. I stayed with Robert Nieuwland until the first downhill, and then it was obvious that he knows how to get down steep downhills faster than I do. He and another guy opened up 2 minutes on me there. I worked to recover that time the whole race and I finally caught Robert, passed him and was third going into the last downhill. That's when he passed me again doing his amazing downhill running and took third place. I'm not upset. I ran my heart out and had a good race. On top of it all, the top 3 places were paid to run the race by the organizers. So all in all a good day. Very happy with my performance also. Especially since I was able to pass Robert and possibly beat him. He did however make a mistake and thought he missed the trail and backtracked, he told me that we had to go back so I went with him. That cost us about two minutes. Oh well.
In other very good news, my friend Ricardo Garcia finished in 5th place, only 10 minutes behind me. He is getting a lot stronger. Really glad to see that.
