Orienteering 3:22:26 [3] 36.0 km (5:37 / km) +417m 5:19 / km

Juanma and I did great in this Rogaine in Casa de Campo. Not the best Rogaine ever. Crappy maps, several controls not there or a few hundred meters from where they should be. At any rate we got all the controls (out of the ones that were there). We finished the course in 2:20 with 40 minutes to spare. Then I went out and put in the extra distance that it called for on my training plan. We won, and now I feel tired.

A somewhat disappointing training in San Martin de Valdeiglesias. The plan was to simulate a middle qualifying race, active recovery for 15 minutes, then start a middle final race. Everyone would start in the order they finished. Same as a Championship race. (Fastest qualifier starts last in the final, slowest qualifier starts first in the final). Unfortunately I was orienteering very poorly in the qualifier, which is nothing new. However I was doing so badly I decided to pack it in because people would be waiting at the finish. I got to the finish and no one was there. I started walking towards the van because I figured I´d prefer to get back before they finish. Turns out they had gone to the last control to wait for me. So we missed each other. I could have started with them but didn´t realize it. While walking back I found Luis who turned his ankle again. The poor guy is in great shape and he is a great orienteer but his ankles keep setting him back.

At any rate, when we got back we found out everyone had run terrible. The map was very difficult and the terrain was hard to run in. I wish I had known that while I was out there. It may help in the future to think that if some aspect of the race is difficult for me (thick vegetation, tough to locate controls, etc.) it´s likely difficult for most people, if not everyone.

Orienteering training at Alto de los Leones. Really beautiful woods. I loved getting out there. Especially getting out of the city.

The workout from Wednesday and a bit of my training on Thursday because I forgot to restart it. Workout was 4x1600 meters@ 3:30-3:40 per km with a 3 minute break in between. This was a lot harder than last week. I think it was mainly because of the race on Saturday.
