Running 25:00 [3] 5.0 km (5:00 / km)

15 minute warm-up with 7-9 at tempo. Done in the forest. 10 minute cooldown. Done at grandpa pace on the road.

Orienteering race 51:56 [4] **** 6.1 km (8:31 / km)
spiked:24/30c

A fast but difficult middle. I had an above-average race. The terrain was very good for fast running but had so much rock detail that you had to be very very careful when you got close to the control. I focused a lot more on control descriptions today. It still wasn't enough. I need to continue to work on my short game. Goals!

I picked up two Portuguese runners about a third of the way in. We kept switching positions. I was making sure not to follow them blindly in case they made a mistake and I could pick up some time on them. We stayed even for a while. One of them took off and left me and his team member behind. Then he and I cut in off a trail too early and were left wandering on a hill top. I found the flag first and left him behind.

Moral of the story: I was rolling through the forest with them and was surprisingly focused. Also it was very, very fun to feel internationally competitive even if just for a bit. Love getting a taste of that...

Running 15:00 [3] 3.2 km (4:41 / km)

Warm-up with minutes 10-13 at tempo.

Orienteering 52:43 [3] *** 7.0 km (7:32 / km)
spiked:20/25c

A much better race than the long. My legs felt heavy so it was difficult to get going. I had one 5 minute error and several smaller errors that totaled about 8 minutes. Still at any rate I was happy with how I was navigating. Most times I was picking good attackpoints and moving fast. The more I orienteer the more I realize that my weak point is when I get close to the control. I lose SOOO much time wandering around at every control just trying to close in on it. Not only does it add time but it breaks up my rhythm. Any suggestions to train a better technique. I'll do research too.

Running 20:00 [3] 4.3 km (4:39 / km)

15 Warm-up for the Sprint. Minutes 10-13 at Tempo. 5 minute cooldown.

Orienteering 18:28 [3] ** 3.0 km (6:09 / km)
spiked:13/16c

Sprint. This was a decent race. Once again I spent too much time wandering around the controls early on and was out of the race. Then I turned it on and was holding on to some Spanish junior team members. The winners got 5 minutes on me. They must not have been feeling the last few days. I was.

Orienteering 1:48:16 [3] **** 9.2 km (11:46 / km)
spiked:13/27c

A decent race in El Robleo. I started out too slow and made too many errors early on. I was out of the race from the beginning. At number 8 I ran into Ivan Ramal from Colivenc and we couldn't shake each other for the rest of the course. We weren't following each other since we would take different routes at times, but we always ended up at the control at the same time. Very wet. The last 1.5k of the course was only mud and stream. I had my second to last control in a knee high stream that wasn't there a day before.

Orienteering 45:00 [3] 4.5 km (10:00 / km)

Model Event on Los Motores. Really wide open and I did really well. Only a few mistakes and they were because I ran past the controls. Going too fast.

Running 55:00 [3] 12.2 km (4:30 / km)

Run along the shore in Cadiz. Just cruising and getting out to move my legs.

Running 55:00 [4] 13.4 km (4:06 / km)

15 minute warm-up and 5 minute cooldown. 35 minute tempo on Canal. Covered 9.6km exactly. Legs felt heavy to start. Calves are tight but other than that it was great. Happy to get in a solid quality workout.
