Note

Ô what a gloriously wonderful day.
3 PM

bogtrotting 1:00:01 intensity: (43 @1) + (7:25 @2) + (46:23 @3) + (5:23 @4) + (7 @5) 6.3 km (9:32 / km)
ahr:161 max:214

Cycled home at 3.30am this morning.

I had porridge for breakfast, then I did a couple of hours of maths, then it was time to run off the Guinness from the night before.

Went up past Gray's onto the bog, across to the holiday cottages, 100m on dirt road, then straight across the bog, aiming for the masts on Minaun. I walked up some of the steepest bit.

bogtrotting 1:05:53 intensity: (28 @1) + (9:30 @2) + (27:09 @3) + (28:46 @4) 10.08 km (6:32 / km)
ahr:165 max:182

Minaun from Slievemore, with Clare Island behind:

Then I ran 8 minutes from the mast up to Mary, and sat there for a while admiring the 360º views from Minaun, just phenomenal, and wonderful sunshine.

And then the descent! Bog-mogulling downhill from Minaun is about the most fun one can have with one's clothes on. Even without the stunning views it would be wonderful, but this was magical. After the descent, there was the return across the bog, some of it quite the slog. After being out 1h50, I stopped to soak up some energy, and my knee froze up, took a while to shake that out.

Back to the house, ran my legs under the outside tap to clean them off and cool down a bit, put the head under the tap too.

After a couple of slices of soda bread and a shower, walked down to the beach for a bracing swim in Dugort, lovely, took a while to get cold afterwards.

Back up to the house for a steak, potatoes and tomatoes, then off to the Valley House for music and guinness and people and music. When I arrived there were maybe twenty people, I only counted fifteen of them playing music...

Cycled home at 3am.

Note

Thanks to Greg and Tish for a lift to Ballinrobe, then some man who knew Roxanne from tcd and an old corko engineer who may have worked for Jacobs(?) for a lift to Partry, then to a Pakistani taxi driver for the lift to Westport, with an hour spare to get food before hopping on the bus to the doorstep in Achill. Wonderful.
