Great middle distance, map and terrain wonderful, I felt like I was orienteering seriously for some of it, but the sharpness wasn't there, plus the map was excellent and I didn't know I should trust it that well.
A bunch of top orienteers were there, so after making a few mistakes too many, I wasn't within 150% of the winning time. I need to get back training to do more of this, and to do it better. It is so beautiful and so much fun.
#1 - all good until I got to the circle, knew it should be to the left a little, but there was a bit of a re-entrant heading up towards the depression, and I didn't want to go uphill. Maybe a stacked form-line would help.
#2 - good and fast, except on the map the pit is ten metres beyond the green, and I stopped at the edge of the green, didn't see the pit, so did a back and forth.
#3 - generally good, the wall made it easy
#4 - not the best line, should have been a bit more to the right, easy
#5 - should have been easy, but I didn't know where I hit the trail, made an uneducated guess, then changed my mind when I didn;t hit the small trail, then went on a wander. bad.
#6 - fine
#7 - fine
#8 - fine, but didn't understand the map. Drawing a small depression with an index contour was the biggest cartographical mistake I noticed.
#9 - there's probably a faster route, but I knew where I was going.
#10 - route is apparently ok, although the straight/left route looks nice.
#11-13 - good, except I should have gone straighter up the hill to 13, and I was walking up that hill.
#14 - started thinking about hvo stuff on this leg, lost track of where I was on the trail, then worked it out, then went further left than I intended on the slope, hit the little hill, worked out where I was, then didn't take a good line to the control
#15 - left 14 with two others, tried pushing, went off the line, corrected...
#16 to finish - fine, more or less.
