Note

Slight tactical error of deciding to drive my brother to Woodbury Commons and onwards to EWR. Cloudy this morning, an inch of snow fell in the hour or two at the WC. Passed many a spun or crashed car en route to the airport. On the way back, fewer accidents but more branches down, some low wires, looked like there'll be a lot of damage and the night and the wind are yet to come. A fair bit of power out around the place, but not here. Brrrrrrrrrrr.

And Rocky Horror was postponed.

Note

Coming back from the city a couple of nights ago, there was a guy asleep on the train opposite us, and his phone started to ring a little after we pulled out of Cortlandt where it seems he was to descend. Oops. We tried waking him, but he was out cold. Considered borrowing his iphone and doing funny things with it, but thought that might be risky. Couldn't wake him before Peekskill so he carried on up the Hudson.

Last night Chris was in the city. He got the train back, except he made it all the way to Hamburg. Then he got another train back south, so he ended up in Cortlandt, having slept through the Peekskill stop once more. His phone was dead, as was the station, so he had to wait for a while before someone came who called him a taxi. That wasn't enough, he'd left the keys in the apartment, so he knocked on windows, pondered life, knocked some more, then started hammering. I awoke eventually, sometime around 6am, and let him in.

Today I went into NYC for a couple of seminars while he recovered with a stroll around beautiful BM. Evening involved Mexican restaurant followed by music at the Bean Runner Café. Peekskill is great.

I'd say life is about to start getting back to normal, but with a foot of snow forecast...

Note

Got baby shampoo and antibiotic cream for the eyelid. Nothing worrisome. Busy days still what with the brother visiting.

I hadn't heard of this lady before - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathleen_Synge_Morawe...

Note

Sunday was Chris' first time orienteering in over 15 years, so he didn't do too badly considering, and apparently very much enjoyed the Green course despite bashing his knees falling en route to 5. Oh, and he wants to know whether Alex has a prize for him for coming second on Green Rec.

C-H's attempt on Green, her third time orienteering, took over three hours with a couple of missed controls, but she was still happy and is still hooked on orienteering. Having gone over the course with her yesterday, she seemed to have two major problems - one is distance estimation, not necessarily formally, but an intuition for how far she had gone at least - and the second is there was so much green on the map she didn't really see (and thus use) the contours. Orange might have made more sense.

Anyway, good times.

Note

Eyelid is being funny - irritated on Saturday, swelling a little more each day, now a little swollen below as well, like I got a black eye ;) It's a bit tender, but not sore unless I poke it.

Waiting for the doc to get back to me.

Note

I'm clearly in terrible shape as I thought the Canuck Smiths were running somewhat fast this past weekend.

I like this one.

Cruised around. Could have done with not forgetting my camelbak :)

Fun stuff, interesting route choices, even if there were no long legs.
