Yale "Sprint"

Big thanks to Becky for this, as it was really top-notch map and course. I jogged as fast as I could jog without my heart exploding. Lots and lots of fun.

Took a while to recover. I think the ice-cream at M&M's helped :)

It was great to see everyone. Winter was too long!

Woken up at 10:30 by a phone call informing me that negative strep turned into positive for strep after a few days.

Tireder today, I guess it's five days after Sunday's exertions.

Orienteers are wonderful, but every so often...

It's funny how some universities, you go in, say you are interested in setting up some orienteering activity and putting on an event, and they go, cool, brilliant, we need new activities for the students, there's an outdoor skills course without any orienteering, or it could be set up as a sport giving credit for the phys ed module, and we don't have much money but a stipend could probably be arranged, and Harriman is a wonderful place, and sure, holding events here shouldn't be any problem, and if the students were interested, what sort of equipment would they need if they wanted to put on an event, and if the students don't have cars to go training there are vans that could be borrowed, and la dee la dee daaa...

Scary thought for the day: Sarah Palin may be not as thick as she appears. Some scientists would argue that humans and dinosaurs do co-exist. I guess it depends on how you define robins (or Mr Paisley).

Out for just over two hours. Tired setting out, and think the bug hasn't quite departed, so decided to keep the HR low, most of the time below 150. Then I ended up walk-jogging a lot of it.

It was beautiful out there, frustrating too as I think some of some course will have to be rethought. Also the bike trails are unmappable (and small enough as to be unnecessary to map, perhaps).

At some point out there I felt like crying, after going through a part of the map which was supposed to be bad, coming into the good stuff, discovering a re-entrant I wanted to use didn't exist and then finding nasty bike trails a moment after. I was also thirsty, didn't have much energy, and had a hill to climb.

On the other hand, five minutes later I got to run what will be the most amazing leg of the year. I may have to offer a beer to whoever gets fastest split on that. Beautiful woods, as always.
