Lovely day. The pretty Scandi girls in the lot before the start stopped me doing a proper warm-up. Oops.

1 ok, 2nd ok except the control circle was centred on the upper cliff, so I went there first (the code said the western, lower one). Hadn't planned three, and got the control exit wrong and did a bit of a loop to 3. 5 I hesitated 100m before, wasn't sure I hadn't gone off-line.
6-13, fine. 14 I lost a few seconds at the rock-pile instead of the knoll/crag. 15 I hesitated coming into the circle, the print quality wasn't superb and I had a little trouble reading what was going on. 16 I hesitated - again the print quality wasn't up to scratch: the crag in the re-entrant was so thin it was invisible.

Are there no printing standards in this corner of the country? Can clubs not find a system which works really well and stick with it?

Great event anyhow :)

Ward Pound Ridge, HVO local event.

I got a recycled map with astounding print quality. I kind of look at map print quality like a chef looks at a knife. This was the orienteering equivalent of slicing tomatoes with a wooden spoon.

On the other hand, it was lovely forest, the course was good, the contours in the right place, the people friendly (I even got accosted by someone in Swedish, and even replied på svensk).

And the road there, 22 north from White Plains, was about the prettiest I have been on with the fall colours and the lakes, barring perhaps some sunsets by the Hudson. Beautiful anyway, and there was appropriately great music on wfuv to accompany it.

out for 45 minutes collecting controls on the yellow. I made a mistake :)

Note

balls, meant to go to sleep early enough to run before work, that didn't happen... then meant to leave work early enough to run before heading to the city for dinner, that didn't work. Ended up an hour late due partly to incredible stupidity. At least I got some work done.

West Rock Ridge,
Really wonderful views from up on top, I presume. I could see 20m in the fog and the mist, beautiful conditions. Fun training, pity I didn't make it down in time for company.

The hot shower afterwards was wonderful, as was dinner with M&Ms.
