orienteering race 1:41:31 [4] 12.0 km (8:28 / km)
ahr:154 max:178

ES public race near Arvika

Reasonably good race. Would have been happy if I hadn't messed up controls 16 and 17. Could have run three-four minutes faster, more if I had run harder. Took AQ by a minute and a half, first time in a while :)

Winsplits 7/7 only noticed 47s of mistakes. GPS would find more.

H-O A ran 86 minutes, but he grew up near here. It was nice almost-Norwegian terrain, hilly, rough and wild. There were three long legs and then a fair few mid/short legs in mostly white forest. Good orienteering!

running warm up/down 17:00 [2]

Note

Forgot to say, my head was all over the place, so I went out without much confidence... and my o-pants inside out... and my food bag back at the ranch.

After the race I managed not to pick up a running top for the clothing transfer. No end of stupidity... so I must have won Carcassonne on autopilot ;p

orienteering race 37:00 [4] 4.5 km (8:13 / km)

Närkekvartetten 2

Middle distance. Ran reasonably well in this tough, rocky and broken terrain. Should have run up to two minutes faster. W7/7 noticed 1:37 of mistakes.

Not very impressed with the print quality of the map.

way too short

orienteering race 1:59:02 [3] 12.6 km (9:27 / km)

Närkekvartetten 1

Orienteering is great at hubris!

Ran out of water an hour before the start... so wasn't too happy and only did a short warm up. Messed up many controls, starting with 1, 2, 3, and 444444. W7/7 caught almost 9 minutes of mistakes. Great. By the third control I was wondering where I left my head. The fourth was the first time I have been properly lost, ended up on the wrong wee hill after turning 120°... oops... 3-4 minutes lost.

Still enjoyed it in some strange masochistic way... good to have a challenge once in a while :)

running warm up/down 25:00 [2]

orienteering race 38:57 [4] 5.3 km (7:21 / km)

Norra Åbyggeby
Gävle OK Vårluffen Medel

Not as good a race as the day before. The legs were a bit tire, so I had to force myself to push, which means less concentration on the map-reading.

Another short leg to the first control, didn't have a plan for when I got to the circle, went a bit left, lost 20s.
Second I got ok.
Third I drifted left a little a hundred metres before the circle and hesitated a bit before running cleanly into the control. 20s lost.
Four I hesitated with a zigazag when crossing the ride, other than that I thought I did it ok. 10s
Five maybe left would have been faster? Winsplits says I lost 9 seconds.
6 I made a balls, had a good plan, skirt left of the veg, then left of a hill witha cliff then straight. But there was a nice ride going right of the hillcliff, so I took it. Wasted 20s doing that, 10s working out the new route, and 20s when I couldn't see the small hill the control was on (I still think the map was slightly distorted here). 56s. Ouch.
7 good.
8 route, the cliff under the line might have been a faster way in, but I didn't see it. 20s lost apparently, without a real mistake...
9 good
10 ok
11 good
12 I lost 20s by starting off towards thirteen. Which if you see how the course printing is you would understand. Still inexcusable.
13 good.
14 I went a good bit left on this, accidentally. Clean into the control. Winsplits doesn't see a mistake, but probably lost 10-15s
15 ok
16 tried simplifying and made a balls of this short leg. Could have been so easy. 30s lost on a 40s leg.
17 good
18 good, marsh was a bit to the right of where I expected it to be.
19 good
20 ok
21, finish, ok

Fun race, despite the rocks and marshes. Should be orienteering just a little bit better. Winsplits with 7/7 thresholds says I lost 3:22.
Albin R ran 31.
