Carrick

Legs were proper jelly after this. Tried to push a little harder on the uphill this week, HR was up around 185 for a bunch of it (my watch said the av for the race was 182, max 195, strange).

Today was steep, had to walk bunches, as did a lot of others. The downhill was steep and less soft, sorry knees. Only caught a couple of people. Reached Phillip C's heels just as it flattened out, no way I could get him on the flat. Decent running for a probability phd student.

Not as cool as Djouce, but still pretty fantastic!

Note

Only lost a minute to ColmM on the downhill, which means I have much more room to improve going up!

Djouce IMRA race.

Summer evenings are great! The legs felt a little heavy from the weekend, but clearly a few weeks of training are having an effect. Managed to run/jog all the way to the top, with stunning views across the mountains for the last km of climb, hazy sunshine, a thin line of fog below Kippure, and Sugarloaf and sea out the other eye. Then the fun began. It's a proper fun descent. I still need a bit of practice, but still overtook a bunch of people, gaining whenever I took the brakes off. There was just one guy on the forest road at the end whose heels I reached, but he had been saving fuel for the final few hundred metres.

Did a good job of keeping the HR around 180.

Close to cramping afterwards, but a nice jog afterwards loosened the legs.

tempo, felt a bit fitter, I think the IOC and the run yesterday did me some good.

A bit woozy in the afternoon.

Shane rescued from me from the couch and we headed out Mulllaghcleevaun direction. Wet, windy and cold, but visibility was alright and it turned into a fantastic wee jog with some sprinty bits thrown in, flying down peaty bits and hopping hags.

On satellite view you can see how the terrain changes between kms 6 and 7.

Thankfully Shane did 25km before breakfast, so he wasn't held back too much by me.

PS I am designed for running on soft ground.

Note

Takes a long time to clean a house before leaving. And even then, I left some vegetables behind, oops.

On Sunday I was in the fantastic Valley House. The brother of the owner was in the bar briefly. I didn't know him, but his funeral was today, died on the Monday aged 55 of a heart attack. Dropped in a card on the way home.

Swam in Dugort. Still none too warm.

Not enough running this week, but got the corrections that needed doing done and finished refereeing an article and did some more gutter cleaning which needed doing. Wasn't sleeping as well as I normally do here.

trail run 45:00 [3] 5.13 km (8:46 / km) +500m 5:54 / km

Such a stunning day. Went to Keel hoping it might be surfable, but the wind was northerly, so no waves to speak of. Had soup and did some maths in the Beehive, then went to Keem. Jogged mostly up to the lookout hut, looked out, then set off up the ridge. Stopped after a bit to check my tick bite. I found the bugger this morning, pulled out half of it by hand, then went off in search of my pen-knife. Got a bit more with the tweezers, but the jaws (?) remained. Some digging with the tip of a blade got the rest (I think), but sheesh it was firmly attached. The swelling was disturbing me running, so I pulled down my tights and inspected my inner thigh. Raising my head, an American couple was in front of me, oops. Where did they come from? I apologised, the guy asked if it was crotch burn. Not sure which would be worse...

Anyway, the ridge is ridiculously stunning, Croagh Patrick well visible, can't quite see New York, but up there with the best walks in the country, even without any Largeys present.

Swam for a few minutes afterwards, brrr.

By far the hardest part of this run was getting the shoes on. Such a great route...
Lots of exam correcting done and gutter cleaned.

1.5 beaches run, turned back at the river on the Golden Beach.

Stopped a bit at Masterson's to nosy through the windows. Shocking that it's closed and for sale and not selling.

Relay, again forgot to start the watch! Turned it on, and it beeped to say it found satellites, which I figured was good enough.

I was on my own, last leg, nothing to play for, so I went out to play, and fun it was.

Nice swim in Bundoran afterwards.

IOC Long,
Lough Eske.

Missing the first hour of the race (just shows I don't look at my watch often!) Despite that, it still thinks I need 119h to recover.

Wonderful wonderful.

Lovely out, but not as technical as it could have been. Still made a couple of mistakes.

Nick ran 33.

Watch says I need 68h to recover from the race.
