Note

Poor UCD orienteers will be at a disadvantage, not being familiar with "cultural landscape".

3 PM

skiing 1:35 [3] 16.77 km (6 / km) +278m 5 / km

Bois d'Amont, cross the border at la Cure and turn right.

Nice almost slushy conditions, fun skiing. At least until there was a bit of fine rain at the end. Technique gradually improved and I'm sure I was faster heading back down to the car.

Hopefully some of the rain falling tonight and tomorrow will be snow up there... otherwise my season pass will not get much use.

Checked out Chalet Gaillard, km #4, which involved a bit of walking and chatting. Looks like a good place to sleep.

running 8:00 [3]

Around the block a few times. Anywhere interesting would have involved a hill. Nice and sunny out!

Felt like 8 minutes was about the right sort of time/distance for the calf.

Note

WotD: Rouste --- wallop if French, pipkrake if Finnish.

Wednesday Jan 27, 2016 #

Note

1290/2000 controls perhaps makes last year look better than it was, training-wise. Should I aim for 2000 again? Presumably.

Note

Who needs real Maths?
"There are eight permanent lectureships currently advertised in the UCD School of Mathematics and Statistics.

This is a themed recruitment of several permanent lecturers across the areas of Applied Probability, Stochastic Analysis, Stochastic Modelling, Statistical Modelling, Financial Mathematics, Networks, Optimization, Computational Mathematics, and Computational Statistics. We also have a position in Actuarial Science, and a position with a preference for Algebra and its Applications."

Note

Misappropriate my results, why don't you.
"although Dobbs' proof also contains some minor flaws such as, somewhat obscure way of treating the periodic case and lack of complete argument for the existence of simply connected nice sets."

One of the authors of those lines even refereed my frigging paper, and is always complimentary and friendly to me in person and friends with my circle of mathematicians... This is her second time being unprofessional. Still, the authors are full professors, so they can do what they like.
3 PM

skiing 1:15 [2] 8.53 km (9 / km) +143m 8 / km

skiving in the Jura, from la Givrine.

Heart wasn't really in it, pretty though it was. Quit earlier than I expected.

strength 15 [3]

To log something ;)

Sunday Jan 17, 2016 #

4 PM

orienteering 16:00 [2] 2.33 km (6:51 / km) +104m 5:36 / km

Went far enough to feel my Achilles, then turned around. Super pretty out, clouds of blue, rose and gold. Would have been nice to go farther.
Icing.

2 PM

skiing 1:20 [2] 8.65 km (9 / km) +162m 8 / km

La Vattay
First proper ski of the season. Did good for the head, nice to be up a hill.

Snow was nice and fresh, some dammed that morning, some dammed again after a later 10cm. Cloudy, good since I forgot my sunglasses :)

Achilles wasn't noticed, good sign.

Friday Jan 15, 2016 #

Note

Did three and a bit hours of truck-loading for Nicu. If I were any good I'd have gone for a jog today.

Sunday Jan 10, 2016 #

Note

Where am I going? I don't quite know.

Stayed in bed large parts of yesterday, hung out with N&R today.

Starting to feel a little better.

Friday Jan 8, 2016 #

Note

Bit of a cold/scratchy throat. Let's see i I can beat it.

Wednesday Jan 6, 2016 #

11 AM

running 25:00 [1] 3.43 km (7:17 / km) +85m 6:29 / km

Wee jog as the ladies went ski-touring.

Calf was complaining, so went gingerly and stopped early.

No harm, also exhausted, close to sick.

A chapter ends. Another begins.

Note

Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.
7 AM

orienteering 30:00 [3] *** 5.13 km (5:51 / km) +31m 5:41 / km
20c

Old town Prague.

Unfortunately Sunday before 8am is not the ideal time for this, as a bunch of passages were closed. One of the open ones had a red carpet, which was somewhat cool.

Pretty.

Wonderful and talented company.

Nice buildings. Only one spot stinking and steaming pee.
8 AM

orienteering 28:39 [3] *** 3.95 km (7:15 / km) +89m 6:31 / km
8c

West side of Prague, back to hotel.

Tweaked calf trying to keep up on the last climb/descent.

"You lucky bastard"... so true, and yet...

Happy New Year everyone!
