Note

Went to bed feeling relatively good after another stretching and light core session. Woke up towards 6 with my head in a funny position propped up on a pillow or two and now my neck is banjaxed again. Argggh.

Note

Letters to Father Jacob
is a pretty good Finnish film, if you happen to be in search of one.

AÅ says I'm much better, might be done with another session. And the tenderness by the third vertebra yesterday/today is probably due to some stiffness causing irritation and inflammation. Probably. Not right yet, but hopefully slowly going in the right direction.

running 20:00 [3]

Did some maths, bought some ceiling lights and misfitting bulbs, did a bunch of stretching, some maths, went back to bed, got up for a wee jog, returned to bed. I have half a cold, sneezy and runny nose if I don't stay warm, and still getting flecks of blood when I blow it.

Some time soon I have to start training again.

Note

Apparently my club was doing poorly fifteen years ago, members aging and quitting. They started organising regular young junior training. Many of the newer current volunteers are, apparently, parents of the kids, or the grown up second/third batches of kids. The first batch of kids all retired when they hit college age. It takes a long time to see payback. But the club recognises organised junior training as essential.

It doesn't (currently) have anything to cater to the older non-serious orienteers besides the weekly IR (which stops for the winter). In the past there used to be a weekly run in the central park/woods. This moved out to the burbs and became more serious, so it is now only for those training seriously.

I'm allowed go orienteering if it's indoors, right? Kept the stride short and was at times more focused on creating atmosphere than reading the map. Fun. And I "won" some soon-to-be-very-useful gloves. And I had a Finnish Squad member tell me that for indoor orienteering one should keep the amp oriented, unlike in forest orienteering.

Latokartano!
Almost possible to see people orienteering from my balcony, but no quite, so I had to go check out the action while all the cool kids are running Halikko.

Walk/jogged the 3km course. Didn't feel like I fell apart, so hopefully I didn't do damage. Feeling better than I did a few days ago, anyway!

Note

HS currently 6th in Halikko!

Note

Did something to my knee on the way to the bus (or before?), doesn't feel good. Then my back cracked, neck and feet too... not sure yet how much it has helped. Knee is worse than back for the moment.

Note

There were a couple of spare places in my cabin back to Finland and some orienteers were in need of beds, so I ended up sharing a cabin with two guys I didn't know. One of them, let's call him Valtteri P, got ympi tunnellissa drunk, and was lying asleep when I got back to the cabin. As I brushed my teeth, I heard a noise, and emerged to find vomit on the floor, on my bed, on my clothes, my shoes, my rucksack, in my rucksack...

Spent half an hour cursing, cleaning my stuff and, with the help of the third guy, cleaning the floor and bed so we could sleep without lung poisoning.

Note

Beautiful day, beautiful woods, beautiful people. Good times, but very tough not to be out orienteering.

Everyone, and I mean everyone, was recommending Anders A.

Gorgeous Lunsen.

A little dark, quite dark towards the end, but the smells were great and the yellow hills were shining. Also, the little control flags were all where they were expected to be, pretty much, and the mapped boulders were all giant, even if some were reminiscent of mossy knolls from three sides.

Fun times. Pity my back didn't appreciate it. No falls, but bumpy enough to cause issues.

Followed by good times at the pizzeria and playing games.

I didn't get the job, though, so I won't be joining the best Swedish club in the world anytime soon.

OOcup I love you, but your contours aren't as smooth as they once were and there is a surfeit of form-lines... http://oocup.com/

Fantastic weather! Could barely see the treetops for the fog.

Note

Nose job yesterday, so no running for another couple of days. Adrenaline is mad.

And Helena, even after google translate you can tell she writes wonderfully.

Finally got out the door. Back isn't 100%, but as long as I don't fall I should be ok. Oh, and the thing below the knee still exists, guess I'll just have to be careful with it.

Cold, but that didn't stop me pausing for a few minutes to watch people ski-jump!
