Vinterserien,
Farsta

"51 tappra deltagare kom och sprang i den djupa snön i fint vinterväder, vara hela 23 valde den längsta banan."
Since everyone was away skiing, I came 4th. Lost a bit of time when I met a couple of Irish girls near the rubbish heap. Other than that, and one dodgy route choice, made no real mistakes. Could still be smoother with the navigation.

The djupa snö went up above my knees in places. I benefitted from tracks as one of the last starters, but it was still tough work. And I only got to bed at 4am, so things balance out. P Hemmyr from Jarla won in 54:30.

HR was averaging in the low 170s kms 3 through 7, then dropped to low 155 and 149 for the last two. Need to get fitter. And not meet Irish.

Balls. Slept badly two nights ago. Slept really badly last night and had to get up early-ish both days. Have a mild stomach bug too. Have to give a talk in Mittag-Leffler's old dining-room tomorrow. Haven't prepared. Feel like crap.
8 PM

Note

Mild wasn't the word. I must have most of it out of the system by now. Please.

Arsta, plus a bit of playing in the snow.

orienteering race 1:30:00 [3] 8.5 km (10:35 / km)

Lida Friluftsgård
Vinterserien

More running in (shin) deep snow. It's physical. Switched off a couple of times following the tracks and made mistakes, and it was harder to keep balance after an hour. Need to get stronger to do this well. It was pretty and fun, though.

Saturday Jan 16, 2010 #

skiing 1:00 [3]

bought skate skis, despite that being a stupid idea... then tried skiing, in spite of that being a stupid idea... fun :)

orienteering race 1:26:19 [4] 8.5 km (10:09 / km)

Stockholm by Night
Snowrienteering.

White snow and deep tracks made it easier. I ran to the wrong first control, took me a minute or three to get sorted, then I was on my own for a good while. Not good to the second either, so I was 5mins down at the third going into the butterfly. Did this ok, got pulled on one control out of 6. Lost 2 minutes on the tenth, another minute and a bit on the 15th, other than that only minor bobbles.

Happy enough, but could have been much better. Skarholt won in 65.

Tuesday Jan 12, 2010 #

6 PM

running 1:00:00 [3] 12.6 km (4:46 / km)

Half of Studs training, didn't want to overdo it since there is MBN tomorrow and I couldn't breathe anyway with the cold. Felt like the HR got up, maybe because no oxygen was getting in. Half of it was at a 4andalittlebit pace. Backvarvet.

Sunday Jan 10, 2010 #

orienteering race 1:24:00 [2]

Vinterserien in a lot of snow in Nacka.

If it were 30 degrees warmer I'd have done a jam halfway around.
Not very happy with how things were going.
Afternoon and evening were/are better.

arsta loop. forgot I was supposed to put on more clothes :)

Friday Jan 8, 2010 #

Note

Managed to get back to Sweden without a hitch yesterday, which was somewhat surprising. It's a good time to be a schoolkid (or teacher) in Ireland:

running 20:00 [3]

Up to addnature to return the charger for my headlamp. Hopefully it won't take too long...

Nearly wore enough clothes: -15, feels like -21, now

running 1:10:00 [3]

From Jenny's manor up Carrickgollogan and back.

A few inches of snow up there. Nice and warm, relatively speaking. I wonder will the airport be open tomorrow.

running 1:15:00 [3] 9.0 km (8:20 / km) +400m 6:49 / km

Back to Mahon Falls for another run up the hills. Went further this time, only did one spin in the valley. It was pretty!

Some locals had trouble understanding why I wasn't falling over :)

Sunday Jan 3, 2010 #

running 40:40 [2]

The ocras is back!

Moonlit run down to Dunmore East and back, followed by a tub of yoghurt, muesli, a banana, bread, steak and crackers :)

orienteering 1:05:00 [2] 7.0 mi (9:17 / mi)

Coumshignaun, location of the 2020 Irish downhill sprint-O champs.

Another lovely cold day, headed back up the Comeraghs.

Rocks up by the Coum just like they were fifteen years ago, but boulders have sprouted and moved around some since Pat H visited the place in 1986. Time to import a mapper!

A recipe to start the New Year in style.

Take the Comeraghs, add some icing sugar, put on icebugs and eat to your heart's content.
