running 27:15 [3]

jog around reimersholme

of the numerous people I said "Hej" to, only two responded in kind. One was a woman with her child, the other was the female half of a couple out jogging. Conclusion one: Girls who greet strangers get hitched faster.
Conclusion two: Swedes are more social than sociable.

I should be a sociologist.

trail run 1:45:00 [2] 15.0 km (7:00 / km)
ahr:157 max:173

Took the T-bana to Mamso where I realised (again) that I'm really quite thick. I remembered everything from waterproof socks to headlamp and compass but neglected to pack the map... so I went for a non-orienteering run.

It was beautiful at dusk early on with the forest all frosty and sparkly. I did 20 minutes of terrain running before switching to Motionspar. I got fairly cold and quite tired. The last thirty minutes went to the mantra "pepparkakor pepparkakor pepparkakor..."

I ate half a tub on the train back. Never tasted so good :)

running 1:12:50 [2] 12.63 km (5:46 / km)
ahr:134 max:168

jog to and around tiergarten. started v slow as my calves were frozen.

stopped for a bit of a carillon concert when I arrived in Tiergarten

nearly went out without gloves and in short sleeves, which would have been a mistake.

Parents and sis went back to Ireland today.
I go back to Schweden tomorrow.

running warm up/down 51:43 [2] 8.65 km (5:59 / km)

warm up/down and recovery between intervals

running intervals 20:00 [4] 5.16 km (3:53 / km)
ahr:181

5*4mins intervals in Tiergarten, Berlin. 2mins recovery

Lovely day for a run. Some was in varied park terrain, the third one I think was all on concrete and includes ten seconds of walking. 4th includes crossing a big road.

running warm up/down 25:00 [2]

to and from the orienteering. On the way back I went on a tourist deviation to a sun-drenched hill overlooking a lake. It wasn't this one (overlooking the archipelago):

Indeed, I wasn't even where the photo was taken. gg was on the other side of the map!

orienteering 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Training on Bere Island, oh wait, that's in Cork... must have been on Björnö, east of Stockholm. With AQ, JAM and gg, so a little out of my league :)

Lovely area

It was tough orienteering, old-style mapping and physically tiring (esp after a month without real terrain running). On one loop a crossable stream had turned into a 20m wide lake. I took a detour. It's nice to be back (orienteering that is).

running 1:13:04 [3] 12.17 km (6:00 / km)
ahr:152 max:182

Jog around Södermalm/Arsta. Instead of making a loop by returning over Arstabron I doubled back.

On the way back I got hugged by a mentally handicapped guy. He seemed happy about it.

My car appears to be gravely ill.

Wednesday Dec 17, 2008 #

running 26:27 [4] 4.38 km (6:02 / km)
ahr:149 max:172

Around Langholmen.

Tough session. Maybe I should go back to Chile. Or bed.

Sunday Dec 14, 2008 #

Note

I'm nearly better. The car is sick.

Friday Dec 12, 2008 #

Note

uvula is resting on my tongue

Note

it hadn't peaked. OW

Note

...
The pain was enough that I got up early and went to see the doctor. Sweden is great. Had to wait a mere 15 minutes. Got examined and she said it might be strepp. Big surprise. But instead of giving me a prescription for pennicillin and sending me packing, she took a swab and sent me down the hall to the lab where the test came back negative. I didn't need pennicillin. No need for antibiotics.

On the downside, it's a virus and they can't do anything for me. Hohum.

other 1:00 [3]

Eating foo. It was painful.

I'm just logging this so the week appears on the recent weeks graph.

Has it peaked yet? Yesterday was definitely worse than two days ago. Today it feels like yesterday. I wonder how complicated it is to get one's throat amputated.

so... the theorem is essentially proved, although I don't know what the statement is yet, and the finer details ahve to be worked out.

My throat didn't get better on Friday. Didn't sleep much with packing and then flight to SCL, bus to Pajaritos from where I got the bus to Viña del Mar for a bit of sightseeing and then huge quantities of pizza with Cristian and Natalia (2 2 person pizzas, and they had less than half of one each!)... so of course my throat was worse... then bus back to santiago on sunday morning, great lunch with Mario and Alison in a Peruvian "restaurant" in one of the popular (in the french/spansih sense) quarters of santiago before getting on the plane to Paris (with leg-room this time!).
where I arrived today... I had been planning on spending three nights at a friend's there but it wouldn't have been much fun. My bed in Stockholm was much more appealing, so after a 5h wait I hopped on a plane home...
zzzz

back training by wednesday hopefully

Friday Dec 5, 2008 #

Note

second rest day, this one is to kill the beginnings of a sore throat hopefully. Yesterday's was to let the legs recover.

90% of the way to proving a theorem. One day left, then we'll be reduced to skype.

running 2:14:34 [3] 19.27 km (6:59 / km) +850m 5:43 / km
ahr:151 max:174

Up the hills in the desert. Continued on another half hour after where I stopped last time. After hopping across a few small hills I landed on a trail which landed on a grit road heading up to the col, my goal for the day. The view from the top (900m above sea level) across the plateau on the other side was potentially amazing but the haze reduced the impact. I could just make out huge mountains in the far distance. The breeze was refreshing and there were small flowering cacti. If I had continued on I would have hit an (abandoned?) quarry settlement.

As I was removing the sand from my shoes preparing the descent, a pick-up drove by. I don't know who was more surprised...

The descent was fun, especially the last big slope taking giant steps in soft sand. Happy days.

running 59:08 [2]

south along the coast. Sunny the first 15 minutes, then it set.

No dolphins this time, but lots of guano-making machines. Funny the main industry of the country used to be based on birdshit.
