Note

Flying to Porto today. Shouldn't really be taking three days off in a row. But Wed night started feeling strange, felt bad all today (luckily got to lie down on the flight from barca to porto) and tomorrow wasn't feeling great either :)

running 50:20 [3] 10.02 km (5:01 / km)
ahr:161 max:176

run by the river.

kept to a 5minK pace, just under before heading back up the slope to town, made back up the six seconds, but zigzagging to break the 10k mark slowed me down a little according to my 305

still a bit stiff after saturday, or after the gym yesterday... whichever it is my calves are both very stiff. Had to stay focussed to not drop the pace.

probably a day off tomorrow, maybe thurday too as i'm heading to portugal :)

have done more than 4hrs aerobic training in the past week for the first time in a long time. Shocking!

orienteering 17:01 [2] 2.4 km (7:05 / km)
ahr:151

orienteering for kids.
probably orange td

slow, after running the 6k quite ahrd

there was actually non-negligible climb

running 28:47 [5] 6.16 km (4:40 / km)
ahr:187 max:196

got up early to get the tram to get the train which brought me to Falenica where the orienteering and trail run were on...

so in pidgin polish i asked to do the orienteering and the nice old man replied in fast incomprehensible polish... so i asked him to repeat in slow polish, which I guessed I had a better chance of understanding than german, which he also proposed... anyway, there was no orienteering for adults this week, only for children, because a plane had crashed earlier in the week in the north of poland, not quite sure what the connection was...
so I was left with the trail run to do... i signed up for the 10 km, but a couple of km in I decided that was a stupid idea... but had to keep going for a while... dropped out after 6km (which was actually allowed, I think, as there was a 6km version too)... advertised as 6.66km with 170m climb.
definitely not as fit as i once was.... wonder how long it'll take to come back... and if my tendons will hold out - they were the main reason for droping out of the race, felt tight... went and jogged the 2km orienteering course as a warmdown.

took a while getting back. Falenica has to be the most ghetto train station in the world. And after hanging out there for a while and after my train didn't show up, I discovered nice, regular buses leaving from the side of the road just opposite. hohum

running warm up/down 11:00 [1]

of which 6.40 beforehand

aerobic (bike/other) 1:00 [1]
ahr:130

15 minutes, then 5 stretching, 15 strength, then 45 more...

kat was right... this was not exactly riveting reading but made the time pass much faster. On the other hand, HR was lower than usual... guess I wasn't pedalling so hard.

Note

rest HR before going for a run this late morning... high 50's... with a bit of effort got it down to 50 momentarily. Either doing maths way too late last night or am very unfit!

Note added after run: In general, getting too little sleep I think.

Also, I had the feeling today I was in some C-rated horror movie. Trying to leave the building today to come to the office I got stuck behind a hunchback, serious case - her hump was barely higher than my waist, her head was lower... incidentally, I reckon the average age in my apartment block must be over 70...

then on the tram... it was full... and while there were some young people, the majority were again over 70. If it weren't so scary the battles over who got to sit down would have been hilarious. Visibly healthy 75 year olds with seats were deliberately not looking at the 80 year olds tottering as they stood. Proud healthy 85 year olds would offer a seat to a weaker granny with a condescending remark. As one left the tram, whole flocks converged on the momentarily vacant seat. Some poor 55yo was sitting in a seat reserved for the pregnant and the infirm and looked very perturbed when asked by one of the zombies for her seat...
was I glad to get out of there before my skin turned grey

maybe all the young people are in Ireland...

running 55:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:30 / km)
ahr:157 max:175

down by the river...

lovely day, still a little of the snow that fell yesterday left on the grass, temperatures above zero but the ground still cold... occasional sunshine, a fair bit of blue sky...

still very conscious of my foot...

gym
starting to get extremely bored.
even the prospect of ogling girls as they traipse in and out of fitness class each hour no longer enchants me

also a bit tired... need more food maybe

strength 15 [3]

15 minutes of strength training (no honestly),
also did 5 or 10 of stretching

running is so much more fun

orienteering 35:00 [3] *** 6.0 km (5:50 / km)
ahr:175 max:189 18c

Legionowo, north of Warsaw... I had understood the course would be 7km... apparently not. I suppose it wasa 5.5 course

Nothing too technical, no real mistakes... didn't push hard but still slightly harder than any time recently.

Flat map, which given my condition is a good thing.

Got mild cramps in the calf again last night in bed. I hope that means it's healing :)

running warm up/down 7:00 [2]

running 36:11 [2] 6.36 km (5:41 / km)
ahr:149 max:165

jog in Warsaw,
moving faster at the same HR than I was last week. Still taking it easy... right calf still tight.

More aerobic work in the gym tomorrow.

Goal is to be able to run a classic in Portugal in February.

Monday Jan 14, 2008 #

aerobic (bike/other) 1:05 [2]
ahr:145

Gym in Warsaw for the first time.

I'm persisting in recording non-running activity as one sixtieth of the actual time involved. Partly for consistency, partly out of snobbishness.

50 minutes on a bike-like thing and 15 minutes on a ski-machine like thing. Not much fun. Plus 5 mins easy warm-down pedalling.

Next time I might do a bit of strength too.

orienteering 32:58 [3] 5.3 km (6:13 / km)
ahr:153 max:172

Socre-O,
decided to try the whole orienteering lark thing again for the first time since my best ever race back in October [no wonder I've been feeling crap]. Thought during the night that I was going to ring Jurek to say I wasn't going, but when I got up this morning I didn't feel so bad (still got the cold).

Glad I went, lovely day, map not especially interesting but it was good to get out in the forest. Took it slow, perhaps a little faster than I should have...

skipped two controls accidentally, it was a score-o style so there were no red lines telling me where to go

oh, and length was by Gramin gps... Olength was probably 5km

trail run warm up/down 6:40 [2] 1.1 km (6:04 / km)

biegałam z Słavkiem

Thursday Jan 10, 2008 #

running 36:45 [2] 5.95 km (6:11 / km)
ahr:148 max:170

still half sick with a cold. After Polish this morning, went to a nice bar for bacon and eggs and a cup of tea (2?). Then back to bed for a couple of hours - it took at least 30 minutes to warm up properly despite having two good quilts on me. So I guess I'm not particularly healthy...

Nevertheless, still went out for a jog. Legs still tight. Hope they won't give up. Must start going to a gym and doing cross-training, otherwise I won't be capable of anytihng this year. And I miss orienteering...

By Warsaw standards, not too cold, but still a fair bit of ice around the place. Must see whether I can find a pair of icebugs... or a warmer country.

Tuesday Jan 8, 2008 #

running 26:26 [2] 4.34 km (6:05 / km)
ahr:139 max:162

Jog in Warsaw,
Long day, polish in the morning (8:30am), then half a siesta, followed by job apps... still half sick

then went home, jog on the half-icy paths and roads down to the Wisla

Came back, ate, then decided to submit an article... so now it's 1:15... but at least it's done. Hopefully I didn't make any stupid cock-ups...

Monday Jan 7, 2008 #

Note

Didn't sleep well again, thinking about the seminar, but also sinuses blocked and half a headache.

not good.

Competitors turned up to the seminar but didn't ask any nasty questions, so I think we will try to avert all-out war and calm down a little.
Which should lessen the stress levels...

and perhaps let me catch up on sleep over the next few weeks... zzzz
once I get the job apps out of the way.

Only finished dealing with the conflict situation around 9pm, so couldn't go for a jog given that I felt like crap...

Sunday Jan 6, 2008 #

Note

Back to Poland today.

Lots of sleep deficiency... half sick with the same half-sickness from before Christmas...
... so didn't go for a jog in the freezing cold after arriving.

Had a lot of work to do too to prepare for the seminar the following day

Tuesday Jan 1, 2008 #

running 5:00 [3]

In boxers, in and out of the sea at Dugort, then a length of the beach...

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

surprisingly unBaltic given the time of year
would have recovered fine if the house were warmer and I got a bit more sleep...

drank minuscule amounts of alcohol over the hols...
right leg still seems tight, especially when driving the length and breadth of the country

other (swim) 50 [5]

oh yes, the famous New Year's Day swim is back!

A hundred crazy buggers hanging out practically naked on Dugort Beach waiting for a sadistic bugger to say go so we can scream and dash for the Atlantic... sis' boyfriend has a photo :)

The weather was perfect (must have been close to 10° and calm) and the water wasn't half as cold as in other years.

A great way to start the year with the night before spent in Lourdie's and marching after the bagpipes with sis and friends from Dooagh to Pollack... I don't know why anyone would spend New Year's anywhere else :)
